I am interested in changing providers to Public Mobile but I don't want to change phone numbers. Do I have to change phone numbers with a new SIM card?

HI @mufasagoose A friendly reminder, there is a 2GB extra for 6 months promotion running until tomorrow. To get that, you have to get a new SIM from a store fast, likely around $10 and not more, and activate online yourself and you need $35+ plan
However, if you are activating $25 or $15 only, you can get the SIM for free if you activate in store. Most stores are willing to give out the SIM for free.

You can port (move) your number from one mobile provider to another, providing the prior provider account remains active at the time of the transfer.
You will also need to respond YES to the port authorization text request from your prior provider to enable the port to occur. In order to do this, you will need to leave your prior provider SIM card in your device to wait for that text, respond yes to it, then replace with your new Public Mobile activated SIM card.

You can keep your number as long as number is eligible for porting to PM.
What you have to do is:
Get PM SIM, create self-serving account, activate and register SIM, pick any number. If you have referral code Apply it so you and your friend get some benefit of it. Set up autopay and register your credit card with PM.
After you confirm PM service is fully functional - SMS/calls/Internet works as expected, initiate porting of old number to PM.
Come back for porting instructions, I do not want to bother you now with it, but porting procedure has to be followed to the letter to avoid delays.

No, you don't need to change to new number. You can transfer and port your old number from your previous carrier when you activate your new PM account.

@mufasagoose Yes, you likely can keep your phone number and port it into PM, just check your number and see if it can be ported in (this is a Koodo website but both Koodo and PM are owned by Telus):
https://secure.koodomobile.com/checktransfereligibilityparrot/default.do?lang=en&appname=otherportal
If so, then buy a PM SIM and you can activate and request porting in of the number
