I have had this plan for some time.. My new Umidigi G9 5G works just fine in Canada. Now that I am in Florida for 5 months. I find I cannot make a voice call. Texting does work. It has the new 5G chip in it but I have found out now that this phone does not support VoLTE. But why would it not work 5G. I have tried both AT&T and T-Mobile. When I make a call with T-Mobile it just says, I'm sorry, you do not have a U.S. roaming plan. Well I do have the plan and I pay for it every month. Do I need a different phone. I am ticked!

I think it maybe bandwidth… maybe??

I am confused as to why we cannot access the 5G network though? I did not know this phone did not support VoLTE, which was my fault but what is the point of the 5G then?

I get frustrated with technology being built to be obsolete. Canada has 3G , I don’t think USA does. My daughter switched from Bell to PM due to significant issues (including continuous fraud issues with her account). She is over the moon thrilled. I hear your “pain” and am not sure it is something PM can fix as USA has changed the technology (3M-5M) it supports.

I have the exact same problem as you. My phone and yours I'm sure, has voLte roaming but since public mobile doesn't recognize our phones on the white list, it's nearly impossible to make or receive a call in the U.S.
I've seen public mobiles white list and it frustrates me that they leave me with two choices...live with it or buy a new phone. Had I know this I wouldn't have subscribed to public mobile.
I was with Bell 6 months ago and never had any issues whatsoever while making or receiving calls in the U.S. I'm ticked too.

Since your phone is not VoLTE compatible with PM system, voice calling would be problematic while roaming in the USA.
If you are staying for next five months, might want to purchase a VoLTE compatible phone.

if the cellphone isn't volte enabled, you'll have difficulty making a voice call. Consider downloading TextNow and use wifi or your PM data to make calls to US and Canada for free.

@dianagram1 So if phone not in the voLTE whitelist you have to rely on trying your phone set to 2G/3G and connect to T mobile . For voice only other option is to use text now app or what’s app for voice

hi @dianagram1
it works fine in Canada because we have 3G still. US needs VoLTE for voice calls but your phone is not whitelisted by PM
you have to try TMobile's 2G network and hope it works
if not, you will have to use VoIP app like TextNow or use app like whatspp for voice
