Sign-up Now, Activate Later?

My current plan with another carrier expires January 2, 2025. Can I sign-up with public mobile now to take advantage of the black Friday pricing and have it activate January 1 (or earlier)?

You will need to order a SIM from Amazon for $5 or pick one up at your Telus/Koodo/Mobile Klinik store for $10 or check if your phone is eSIM compatible and order eSIM.

If your existing account is postpaid, you can leave anytime and will get prorated credit on your account.

But if you have a phone that is on a 2 year payment contract then you have to wait.

To add to this, also know that with the Canada Post strike going on, you may not get the SIM card within 30 days so you may consider Amazon or a local Telus store that sells them.

Customers have activated a new PM account and purchase a physical SIM card at same time on PM website.  You will pay for the first month and once the SIM card arrives, you can complete the activation.  Your plan will not start until you receive SIM card and finish activation.  To be safe, I would activate within 30 days of initial payment.  However, I have previously seen comments that customers have finished activation after the 30 days (without getting charged again).

@vanislander08, yes you can do this as long as it's done within 30 days of signing up I believe.
