Calls cutting out

Roxyroller

I keep having issues with local or within Canada  calls. The call will start out fine and if it lasts more than a few minutes I will suddenly start losing the other side (long blank pauses in the middle of the person talking) or they complain that they are losing me. I often have to hang up and call again. Any ideas what this could be? Anyone else having these issues?

@Roxyroller It might be interesting to look up where your local Telus towers are in relation to your location: http://www.ertyu.org/steven_nikkel/cancellsites.html

You could see if trying a call when closer to one of them helps at all.

Also, if you can note if the calls were to people who were also on a cell phone, or a mobile phone. If it happens when calling a landline, you can be fairly certain the issue is with your mobile link. Otherwise, you can't really be sure if it's you or them, unless you call them from a landline.

I have had the same issue while making calls to the US.  I get those long blank pauses mid conversation as well.  Once called the old fashioned way, the other was with Viber. Same result.  Within Canada...not so far.  Weird...  Anyone else experience this?

@Roxyroller  Does your phone have a diagnostics mode that you can dial in and run a test on your microphone etc?

@Roxyroller , what you are experiencing might be local load factors in the network.  Given the ongoing social distancing situation, the loading on the network is far from normal and we are seeing weak links in the chain being exposed.

This happens to me a lot when taking to one particular person, he is most of the time in the car and often using Bluetooth earpiece, he is with telus. I'm assuming it's just because he's moving and switching connection from tower to tower. I doubt Bluetooth has really anything to do with it, but if it does it doesn't help

From what I have read there is a huge strain on the system right now and all mobile companies are trying to scale up their operations.

@Roxyroller Never faced this. If previous advice didn't help, click on ? on bottom right and follow directions to create a ticket with moderators, and they can restart your account on their end. It may solve the problem.

No @Roxyroller , Could you please switch your SIM into another phone, To help us determine if its a phone or PM problem.  Thanks. If it's not a phone problem, try these tricks to restart/ reset your phone service. You could try in order:
1. Restarting your phone. Turn your phone off, wait 30 seconds and restart.
2.Putting your phone on aeroplane mode for 5 minutes. Take it off and restart.
3.From your self service account enable the lost/ stolen feature log out, wait 5  minutes, log in and take it off. Log out and restart your phone.
4. Add a one time payment and of $2 To your account and restart your phone .

If these tricks don't work contact a moderator and ask them to reset your SIM. Click on the green questionmark in the white circle at the bottom right of your screen.  This connects to the autobot Simon.  Type moderator and follow the prompts to get to one (CLICK on "Account specific question" and  "No I want a human" and "Submit a ticket Click me!")
Once connected, you will be asked to log in again with your community user name and password.  Please do, this allows you to continue and send your message.
Check your private message sent box (click on the envelope top right of your screen) to make sure the message was sent. Also keep an eye on the envelope, the mods answer will show up there. Once it does, you will be asked to verify your self service account, with your password and login. Doing allows the process to continue.
You can also enable email notification to receive a private message notification sent to your email. Go into your community account > my settings > PREFERENCES > Private Messenger > enable "Receive email notifications for new private messages" > Save

Stay safe.

Try rebooting your phone.

If you have another phone then try swapping the sim to rule an issue with your phone.
