Black Friday sales shaping up to be the best ever

@Colbydog  Well said , however you have to remember with freedom . 75GB $45 plan for example roam beyond is that you only get 10GB of data to use in any other country other then CAN/US /mexico so it’s little misleading until you read the fine print even though talk and text still works . But with them continuing to shake things up we see public mobile take notice and offer us better plans like we see today with the added benefit of earning points to further lower our bill that freedom does not offer . It’s possible to have your public mobile phone for free with enough friend  referrals and community engagement and I don’t know of any other carrier that gives that kind of flexibility

have to agree competition is great

tier 3 prepaid is interesting with roaming.  From no roaming at all with Lucky to roaming worldwide with Chatr, PM is right in the middle.  Not sure how PM will deal with roaming since it is prepaid.  Maybe a Asia Add-on , Europe Add-on, etc.  But it all comes down on profit, still don't see how PM will make a profile when there is potential different roaming cost for them (they likely don't want to make 50 different roaming addons to deal with the different roaming costs)

@slusagm  it would probably require a bit of work, but with Telus' corporate connections I'm sure it can be done. If Freedom can do it then PM can also compete if they wanted to.

Making money is tough for all cell companies in Canada. Freedom (now owned by Quebecor) is taking the approach of lower upfront costs (and therefore lowering ARPU) to get market share in the hopes of keeping customers in the longer term. The Big 3 have a little bit more flexibility as they have more customers, including corporate clients, that are paying more on a monthly basis.

The international roaming package offered by Freedom is all in, it's not on a country by country basis (https://www.freedommobile.ca/en-CA/network-coverage/international-roaming). I have read that the coverage and service varies depending on which country you are in, which makes sense and is not too different with PM roaming in the US.

Competition is good for incentivizing lower prices and better service!

@Colbydog  Be wise to change plan  with next renewal option and not immediately so you don’t lose money on current cycle . And if better plan shows up from now until cyber Monday you can cancel the plan change . and reschedule another plan change on next  renewal option with better offer should one come available

Change plan in 3 easy clicks

Once you find plan you want be sure to (change on renewal )So you don’t lose money on current cycle

Like so @Colbydog

international roaming option would be harder, it means PM has to have the roaming contract with all other countries.  With low tier no-frills provider, they cannot set the price too high and they won't make money

also with prepaid, it is harder to set different roaming option for different countries (as the cost would be different)

This is awesome! Competition finally having [some] positive impact. And there is no limitation to new subscribers only as I can see in my account that it's a simple click to switch (I'm currently on the $34 50GB can/us plan). I'm hoping that Black Friday/Cyber Monday prices next week will be even better. If not, fall back to this $35 for can/us/mex is pretty good. Hoping they also add an international roaming option like Freedom has.

I agree for the most part. If our phones are capable of connecting to the Mexican networks, then we'll get OTP's even without a Mexico plan. The question for me is whether you'll be able to connect at all if you don't have a Mexico plan. I suspect you will, because I don't know how they'd be able to segrate users out like that. And yeah, the welcome text would be a good test on arrival. If that works, OTP's will work too.

Hi @DennyCrane

i think as long as we receive similar text to "Welcome to USA, you need romaing" when we are in Mex, we will get the OTP text.  They need to keep that channel open to send you the promote text to ask you to buy roaming

but never know until we try

I noticed there were no one-time Mexico add-on's too. It makes me wonder if OTP's will work via text in Mexico if you don't have a Mexico plan.

@hTideGnow  No he’s on telus but it will be same for public with phone set to LTE

HI @Handy1

thanks for confirming.

don't tell me your friend already using PM Mexico roaming plan now

and one thing I just check, there is no roaming add-on for Mex still.  Hope PM will add it soon

@hTideGnow  Just confirmed roaming partner is AT&T in Mexico my friend is there now and just confirmed it for me

Amazing news, and great deals!

@slusagm  They actually had 50GB CAN/US for $34 then just had it for $36 now at $35 they added MEX so yes it’s $1 less and free . Good work public mobile your doing things right this time around very pleased

I think just last year, $50 can only get you 50GB Canada-US plan,

now it is just $35 and they added Mex to it for free.   New Lows 🙂

@slusagm  Here’s to hoping , things are looking up competition wise
