Anyone tried downgrading their plan to see if they see the $35 Black Friday Deal?

Anyone tried to downgrade their current plan >$35/month to the promotional $30/month plan?
Will the $35/month black friday plan then show up afterwards? Thanks.

got it. thanks for the clarification

@Oil_dogg  change plan immediately to the $30 plan . Then you should be able to see the $35 MEX plan . If you don’t already see it in your account . As it’s harder to downgrade plans and that one option many of us see . So by doing so it makes it easy to be able to upgrade plan price . Then if you see the $35 plan you can just schedule using the cabbage plan on renewal option and immediately. . So you don’t lose more money than you have to . To take advantage of of the $35 MEX plan

Hi @Oil_dogg

if you want to change to the $35 Canada/US/Mex roaming plan but you don't have it on your My Account's Change Subsxription page.  But if see the $30 plan there now, you can use Change Now to make a immediate plan change.  After that , at least with some people, it unlocked the $35 roaming plan.  But you need to make an immediate plan change and it is no guarantee the $35 plan will be unlocked.  So, try at your own risk

Hi there,

Could you clarify what you mean by this strategy of downgrading for the month?! I feel like I'm missing out on a great idea but don't quite understand what it is!

For sure. I actually force my phone into 4G because I find 5G too unstable where I live and in my office tower. Once in a while I'll switch to 5G, but I find that I switch back to 4G quickly because it's just not as good as penetrating obstacles. It's great if you're right by the tower though.

@will13am Yeah, in the context of on-device data usage, 100Mbps is more than enough for everyday use. To the point that most of us wouldn't even notice a difference unless we ran a speed test.

I have a Telus line with 5G+ (up to 2Gbps), and most of the time I'm getting well under 100Mbps anyway (it's largely dependent on signal strength, network congestion etc.).

I hope people are not getting big data bucket plans for the purpose of doing speed tests.  I think the important thing with this service is that we have access to the 5G network regardless of plan speed cap.  This minimizes latency which actually yields a better experience than raw data speed.  Most net activities involve downloading small data packets intermittently.  The effects of high latency would be felt way before a degradation in data speed.

So if you don't mind 4G, the $30/mo option is great. I'm actually surprise they offered it since it's a downgrade of plan which Public Mobile dislikes.

I am a bit confused here.  Why are you pursuing plans with way more than 10GB data?

@kykyuen wrote:

Oh and the $30/mo promotion plan I see in my account is 4G, that's why I will need to switch it back to the $35/mo black friday deal so I get 5G back.

If the 4G speed cap was set at 10 mbits/s or lower, I would see a reason to have anxiety over wanting a little more bandwidth.  At 100 mbits/s for a single device, I would argue that your home internet offers lesser performance on a per device basis.  I would not pay a wooden nickel more for 5G speed over 4G speed for plans with identical usage.

Yup, I've listed the plans I see below. If you are on a plan that's > $35, then I think it's worth it to downgrade for the month, and schedule your plan of choice for the next renewal period.

@slusagm  yes that’s why taking the $30 plan smart move for anyone that wants to save money . pM smart enough to know the community would figure this out and make lil extra $ to allow them a work around to get the more attractive plan . The $30 downgrade is still a compromise is one stays with it much less data and slower speed so pick  your poison

possibly you are correct.  But there is a chance people can still see 1 or 2 plans below the current price.  Like people on $35 or $36 plan still see $30 plan

I would venture to say OP sees all plans over $30 and none under $30

All plans that are above $30/mo:

$35 - ca/us/mex - (5g) 50GB
$45 - ca/us/mex - (5g) 75GB
$55 - ca/us/mex - (5g) 100GB
$36 - ca/us (5g) 50GB
$30 - ca/us (4g) 20GB
$40 - ca/us (5g) 60GB

@kykyuen   when you are at $30 plan now, what other plan options you see?

I had my $40/mo plan with 70GB data for a long time, and I rarely go over 10GB/mo.
So if you don't mind 4G, the $30/mo option is great. I'm actually surprise they offered it since it's a downgrade of plan which Public Mobile dislikes.

@kykyuen  Yes the data speed would be my primary reason for wanting to switch back also not so much the MEX part of things even though it’s nice to have I value data and speed and price over everything else

Adding @kykyuen  I’m in the 60GB $34 plan and see the $35 MEX plan but considering the $30 plan just to save $4 a month just because of how hard it is to downgrade plan price these days and future proof myself from loss of potential friend refferals going forward

Oh and the $30/mo promotion plan I see in my account is 4G, that's why I will need to switch it back to the $35/mo black friday deal so I get 5G back.

Yeah I'm just keeping the $30 plan for the month, and have scheduled the $35/mo for next renewal period 🙂

@kykyuen  Your an amazing community member for sharing this info , I knew in my heart it would work and why I have been suggesting it to those that didn’t see it in there accounts . Just makes sense it would work .thanks again you rock 🤘

adding now just schedule the plan change to the $35 Mex plan for next renewal if you still want it but I think the $30 plan worth keeping anyways if you don’t need more then 20GB of data and for the extra $60 a year you save your stil covered for the U.S. use you would need to visit MEX 4X or more a year with add on to make going for the MEX plan worth it at that point

Okay I just tried it for the community lol.

It works. I'm able to see the $35/mo black friday plan immediately afterwards.

Yeah, coz your plan is lower than the $35 Black Friday deal, so it would show for you. Lucky!

Mine and my Mother's was the $34 Can-US 5G 50GB

When I found out on the  New $35 Can-US-Mex(CUSMA) Or could be called(CAUSMEX) 5G 50GB, Checked in my Self-Serve, and it was available

Judging by the how price downgrades are generally not allowed, I think it is a safe bet to get the $30/20GB CAN-US plan which seems to be a bit of an exception.  On the next plan cycle that should open up access to all plans costing more than $30.  I don't have a working crystal ball to see into the future, I am pretty confident that boxing week is still a thing in Canada.  Positioning an account with a $30 plan now going into boxing week won't lead to disappointment.  I have put my money where my mouth is, my accounts with the $34 plan have been downgraded just in time for Christmas.  😂

And for your info, the CS_Agent told me the following - so there's a lot of maybes - that's why I want to see if anyone actually tried it 🙂

Regarding your question regarding the changes:

You must be aware that if you process changes in your account and select the option "Change now" you will be charged the full cost of the new plan and there won't be any refund or credit for the unused days of your cycle. This means if you go a head and change to $30+taxes plan you will pay the $30+taxes and there won't be any refund or credit. Later, there could be the possibility that the $35+taxes plan show or you need to wait 24 hours so the information in the account can be updated so you can log in and look for this plan.

the Black Friday deals could stay as Boxing day deals, so, you could still see them next month

My plan is actually $40/mo, so I was thinking if I spend $30 to switch immediately, then I may be able to see the $35 black friday plan. In the long run, I'd be able to save money and get a better plan for wasting $30 now.

to @Handy1 's point, I would not be surprised if we see the Mexico plans become part of the stable since Freedom appears to have kept their's all year. If that's the case we should have more time to be able to eventually switch to one of these plans even if we have to change to a lesser plan in the mean time

If you see the plan offered to your account while logged in (browser or app) you can downgrade, but its a coin toss if they will offer you the black friday plan you want. Typically, they will only help you upgrade your plan (that is, to a higher monthly rate). So id say if you can change to a lower priced plan, they would be more willing to help you upgrade to one that is more per month. But they wont help you downgrade, you can only do that if you see it offered to your account specifically.

@kykyuen  I don’t know that anyone has tried it yet but I belive it would work and have suggested it as work around . And would be cheaper then porting out and back in to get that plan if support won’t help . So in that case I’d rather give them $30 a month instead of $36 if they don’t help me or give option to pay $35 MEX plan
