5G Plan Question - US Minutes

Fentonw

Hi there, I just switched to the 50GB 5G  plan that states it includes unlimited Canada and US wide minutes and messaging plus unlimited international text and picture messaging. Does this mean calls to the US are included in the subscription or that calls when made in the US are included? I'm not clear on the details here.

Thanks

Fenton

I don't think I'm going to get any answers here regarding this issue. I've had a ticket in since Friday with no answers yet, so I'm just going to have to continue waiting.

@Fentonw   Switching over on the actual renewal date is risky because it may kick in after PM's system has renewed the previous plan and then will wait until the next renewal in 30 days.  That's why it is best to select change on renewal well  in advance of the renewal date.  So I suspect that could be what happened last time.

I switched over on renewal date the last time and currently have problems. There seems to be some question whether this promo was even valid so it seemed sensible not to take any chances on locking it down right away now assuming his is a valid offer and actually includes US minutes.

@Fentonw  Promo ending May 20 just means you have to select it by then even if you choose change on renewal, it will still be honoured on June 8 and just switch over on the renewal date and you wouldn't have lost what you already paid for.  Give it a little while to kick in and if it still doesn't work then submit a ticket at the chat icon bottom right of this page.

I went ahead an selected change now as the promo ends May 20 and my renewal ends June 8. The switch was again successful and my credit card was charged.  However just like when I switched to this plan earlier this month, I still can't call US numbers as I get the message that I've used all available minutes. The description of my plan says unlimited Canada-US wide minutes so I'm not sure what else I can do.

@Fentonw  If you select change now you will pay immediately and lose what's left of the current plan, no pro-rating, so best not to do that.  Is there nothing in your account that confirms which plan you have?  Did you try calling another US number just in case (there are some US numbers that can't be called).

I think I'm just going to try reselecting the plan for US and Canada minutes again and see what happens. I'm wondering if selecting change now or at renewal makes a difference.

@Fentonw   Yes it is currently listed but not so long ago it went to Canada only, I just checked on the Wayback Machine and it shows as Canada only on April 23rd.  When did you select the change?

The plan I switched to is currently still listed on shop plans. It's good until May 20th. This is the plan I selected to switch to. Here is the link to it. https://subscribe.publicmobile.ca/en/bc/activation/plans/50GB-5Gspeed17

I just assumed that by selecting it I would be in the right plan. My payment amount changed to $34 as per the plan details.

@Fentonw   Have you verified that you got the Canada-US plan because there was a time when the $34 Canada-US became Canada only and then switched back again as far as I recall, and in Quebec for example there is a $34 Canada-US plan and a $34 Canada only plan available at the same time.  Have you tried calling any other US numbers?

I selected change on renewal and it renewed on the 8th. I just tried making a call to a US number and received the message stating "sorry, your call cannot be completed since you've used all available minutes"

@Fentonw   When you switched your plan did you select "change on renewal" or "change now"?  How close are you to the renewal date?

I tried making a call to a US number but am getting the message saying the call cannot be completed as I've used all available minutes.

@Fentonw  You can use it the same in both countries both for calling within that country and for calling from one to the other.   The only proviso might be that you need a VoLTE capable and enabled phone for voice calls in the USA because there is no longer any 3G network there but even a non-VoLTE phone should work there for data and texting.

@Fentonw  with this plan, you can use it in both countries for calls and data. Use it there to call here, or use it here to call there.

@Fentonw

yes, you can call US for free from Canada, or you can call US/Canada, when you are in US
