OMG! A Cheaper Plan Became Available for Current Subscribers (at least for me)!

funpig1
Deputy Mayor / Adjoint au Maire

Have you checked your "Change Subscription"  in your Account  today?

As a general observation, PM does not allow current subscribers to downgrade to cheaper plans.

Every once in a blood red moon, PM allows you to do it.

I am currently on a $23 4G 6GB 100 LD plan.

TONIGHT A $20 4G 3GB PLAN BECAME AVAILABLE TO ME. I HAVE SELECTED THIS NEW PLAN TO CHANGE ON RENEWAL.

I rarely use more than 1-2 GB per month. I have very fast wifi at home and office, and I take advantage of free wifi. Plus, I still have about 6GB of Holiday data and 1,400 International long distance minutes available to me to use from 3 years ago. Switching will save $36 plus tax per year.

Check to see if a cheaper plan is available to you now; the rare opportunity to downgrade to a cheaper will probably not last long. If you get the chance to downgrade to a lower priced plan which meets your needs, I suggest that you do it.  It also makes it easier to upgrade to a better available plan in the future. Good luck.

Thank you for your reply.

FYI, I have raised Community issues with both customer agents and with the CCTS in the past.

The customer agents say they have no control over the Community.  And Public Mobile replied to the CCTS and stated that the Community is "a third party application because the user content is not monitored by Public Mobile Employees".

Therefore, if there are any Community issues, they should be dealt with by the Community.

Is there a moderator in charge?

@funpig1

I don't know of any specific CSA in charge.  You could ask a regular CSA to escalate your issue to senior CSA or supervisor.

I don't think anything is searchable the Lounge. It is basically a dumping ground for the Community. Very few people post in the Lounge.

From a survey of the other oracles, it does not look like any oracle moved this post.  Likely done by  customer service agent or another PM staff for undetermined reason.  As an oracle, we can't see who moved this post.

You could contact CSA yourself....

@funpig1 Because we are too powerful, and PM is not happy... Censorship of any kind is never right!

I also found this post is no longer searchable. You can try to search any key phrases in this post and this post won't come up in search results (at least for me).

Hey, All

I would respectfully like to know why this thread was transferred from the Support forum to the Lounge forum?

This thread is clearly related to "phone stuff", helping people with Plans, Accounts, Subscriptions and Change on Renewals. These are issues which make up frequent and major complaints in Support. The discussions with other subscribers in this thread have been mutually informative and appreciated.

There were over 1,100 views, 38 responses and about 25 bravos in this thread in two weeks.

By moving this thread, I have lost all those bravos in Support and dropped one spot in the 30-day Support Leaderboard which directly impacts the potential give-back points. In my respectful opinion, the way the Community is run is not very fair.

I will screenshot this in case it gets censored.

@Davll

That is very interesting! You have managed to revert from a 5g to 4G plan. That is not easy to do. The lower you can go, the better the future inducements to upgrade. If you are patient, PM should improve their offerings. A few weeks ago, $30 would have only got me 20GB of 4G data on a change renewal.

Please come back and let everybody know if anything better becomes available in your Change Subscriptions in the future. From responses and private messages, people are finding this thread useful regarding plans and how to change on renewal.

I just switched to the $29 4g/30gb Canada-only plan...which is okay but not ideal. Worst case scenario I need to wait until back-to-school sales/black Friday or something, I suppose!

funpig1

@Davll

What are the details of your new plan?

Downgrading further by this method requires patience and vigilance. You have to wait for your opportunities. Good luck.

Davll
Great Neighbour / Super Voisin

Thanks for your feedback. I did take the plunge to try to "change now" in order to see if one of the current promos (eying the $29 US/MEX 5G 20GB deal), but nothing has popped up immediately. Will check over the next two days (since the promo is supposedly expiring on the 31st).

I wasted around 10 days to renew early just to see if it would be available.

funpig1
Deputy Mayor / Adjoint au Maire

@Davll

IMO, it is the downgrading to $29 which takes your account to a lower account base price which MAY make further and better available plans for you to change subscription afterwards

IMO, whether you change now or change on renewal only has to do with the timing. My advice is to always use the "change on renewal" because "change now" would cause you to lose whatever you have paid on your current plan. The point of this exercise is to save money and not to give free money to Public Mobile.

Davll
Great Neighbour / Super Voisin

If I downgrade from a $34 plan to a $29 plan, then pick "change now" instead of "change on renewal", do more options open up with the current promotions?

funpig1
Deputy Mayor / Adjoint au Maire

Does anybody with a current 5G plan have a CHEAPER plan available in their Change Subscription. If so, what are the details of your current plan and what are the details of the cheaper Change Subscription option?

I am trying to see if there is any way to downgrade if I were to ever to upgrade to a 5G plan. Thanks.

Update: My Change on Renewal completed earlier this morning. I am now on the $20 4G 3GB plan.

Interestingly, in my change subscription, the $19 4G 1GB plan is now available for me to downgrade further. See screenshot.

@Lorianne16

Are you talking about a satellite dish like Bell TV, which we had for years and then cut?

Or are you talking about a cell phone booster where you mount a dish or antennae to improve the cellular signal into your house?

I deal with a low cellular signal at my house. If I take a call downstairs, the signal is weak and people cannot hear what I'm saying. I have to run upstairs with my cell phone in order to talk to people.

I considered installing a cell phone booster in my house. However, a Telus tech support person told me not to do it because it would cause disruption in my neighborhood.  So, I continue to get some extra exercise, running up the stairs to take cell phone calls.

Ya I had worse a s moms is so bad cant even talk to her.  She s more north another 30 mins from me. But she has to call me back every single time I call her or suddenly she's just not there. Even happens when she's out in another town west of us. Its crazy. Ans yes they are I agree ne er thought to look that up. Great advice. Great lead king for me. Th so you. Never knew you coudl do that.  What do you think of those internet  dishes for rvs? Ya think they are any good for a 2 story building as well? The down-payment is crazy 500 and rhen I think it was 180 in ontario monthly.  Love to check one out but 500 is a little wild for me. I. An use my cell better. I also canceled my tv yrs ago like you did as well when I found out is could watch it all online lol Had no idea I could watch this much tho. Lol

Lorianne16
Good Citizen / Bon Citoyen

My surroundings sound is hooked up thru that glass cord opt cord. So i don't think k it's using data I couldn't get it to hook to Bluetooth so it's a bonus  doesn't use the net. I miss read your message.  But I do t use that much data like yous do but that's a good price  ans I can't get telus in this building anyhow they're a deal wirh cable cable. Not sure tekus is in my area. It could be but i never new they had home wifi. Good to know. But I only pay 40 a month if I pay monthly unlimited  and its just me. Even if it wasn't  others I know jave the dame plansaybe a different provider. Telus n pm are the same person.  They are a side company fpr telus but everything is run thru telus. Whixh is strange cuz I've had issues with telus on my cell like I was saying. But yes we can't get home net like that here onky cheaper side companies ans in a building that's concrete  the signal sucks less than 8 like they promised. I think I get 3 if that. So it's like dial up . Hence the phone plan

@Lorianne16

PM was losing revenue with the overly generous rewards. A lot of people were earning so much rewards under the old system that they ended up getting free service! Many still do. All you need to do is earn 50 referrals and you would end up with a free 100GB plan.

funpig1
Deputy Mayor / Adjoint au Maire

@Lorianne16

Telus and Bell share the same towers. And PM is a subsidiary of Telus and uses their same network. PM is not immune to dropped calls. All you have to do is do a search of dropped calls in the community and you can see that there were a lot of complaints and many people believe that PM gets a worse network connection compared to the higher tiered Telus or Koodo. So if you got better or worse signal when you switched from Telus to PM or vice versa, there could be a real or imagined reason, or mere coincidence. The network is always in a state of flux and maintenance.

Ya I do pretty good sometimes  I fall a sleep and forget to turn  it off. Ut for the most part I'm streaming as I type you ans I'm on the 512 lwer data right now cuz I just ran out last week. I've been watching  ytube all week n I have watched mivi3s off Netflix and ytube  if I find the movie on ytube first.  I do use prime occasionally ans I ahve no issues I just forgot I had unlimited data. But at slow  speeds I cans till watch it on a 55 inch n use my cell a fold at the same time  tom I reset data so she will eb super fast but I don't see alot of difference maybe some but the TV sets itself down  on ytube for day the way it shows the tv or show or movie. Sometimes she freezes up for a second on certain things.  But I'm good it's way better than the net I had which sucked badly. Couldn't watch anything n it cost me 150 just for unlimited net I couldn't watch it froze up all the time. Tv is on wifi and I click on the name of my phone under tethering on my phone it gives u a private code  n I stream daily for hours as I'm stuck at home till I can work again I have 300g for 3 months unlimited  150 plus tax minus my 15 dollar bo us ponts card n they took the 5 off each month if I pay fpr 3 months at a time. If I do monthly I find it's better I think 100g 55 minus 15 dollar bonus points bam unlimited

Lorianne16
Good Citizen / Bon Citoyen

Thats a really good idea and a great way to appreciate  their customers. So why they stopped that I do not know. I did get a yr bonus but not much and they should do it on birthdays as well. Those are the things taht keeps customers around

Lorianne16
Good Citizen / Bon Citoyen

I had telus and came here. It seemed really slow and I'd have alot of dropped calls with my mom and such as I am having again. But I think it's on her side rhis time and she's with bell. I did like tells but I left to coem here because I had so many issues with my service in certain areas. I don't have that problem now. But I also never tried it on my tv. What I do like is that we get them on the phone and here we do not. But I do know eventually they offer mo they plans n phones which pm does not. Now pm is tells really. Its a side company that uses telus services to give to us. Which is strange because how am I getting better service reception right LOL I will look into the prices however  I am curious now thank you

Deputy Mayor / Adjoint au Maire

@Lorianne16

If you are currently paying average about $50 per month for 100GB of PM 5G (up to 250 mbps speeds), you should consider switching to Telus unlimited 5G+ service for about the same price. The Telus 5G+ speed is a blistering 1 GBps and the data is unlimited (The speed gets throttled after you use up your allotted 100 GB, but you can still have access to data at a slower speed; you won't have to renew early because you run out).

I am no expert about those Telus plans. You should get in touch with @Chalupa_Batman . He knows a lot more and I think he can provide you with a referral which can save you some money.

@Lorianne16

PM used to give Christmas gifts to all of its customers, e.g. 2GB Holiday data or 500 Holiday international long distance minutes. These holiday gifts were great because they did not expire until you actually used them. Most of my gifts from years ago are still unused.

Unfortunately, PM stopped giving these holiday gifts out in 2023. That is why many old timers are upset. PM used to be so much better with the annual holiday gifts, the $2 off per month with autopay and the $1 off each for every year you stayed with PM. The current rewards point system pales in comparison to the old legacy rewards. But still better than some other companies.

@Lorianne16

So you can make do with your big PM mobile data plan and forgo home wifi to save money?

Our money saving strategy is different. My wife, adult son and I work from home and we also stream a lot of movies , shows and sports (from Roku, Netflix and Amazon, etc).  We got rid of our TV plan because we found we could stream everything.

We have an unlimited Telus home internet plan with speeds up 250  mbps for about $56 per month. I believe we consume about 600-800GB of home wifi data per month.  My phone on home wifi usage is about 30-40 GB per month. Because our home Wi-Fi services is unlimited, we never ran out of data. On the other hand, my PM mobile data usage is only about 1-2 GB per month.

Lorianne16
Good Citizen / Bon Citoyen

What is holiday data? I've never gotten it seen it or been offered it

Lorianne16
Good Citizen / Bon Citoyen

I don't use the Mexico calling or thr international so it's a waste in my plan i wish I could do a plan with 300g unlimited no Mexican or international I text more rhan anything and I only call ontaril and canada. We need a plan like that even monthly.  Ans I don't take trips outside Canada or ontario so Mexico will never happen for me. So better contests with that in mind maybe a contest for free plans for so many days or a month or more points and maybe a percentage off our bills for contests work better for ppl like me

Lorianne16
Good Citizen / Bon Citoyen

I've not jumped around i know tells is the same as public mobile but pm gets a better deal fpr us if we partner with them. But the thing is numbers don't always go with us so that's a pain. A free card isn't gonna make me go with another provider.  Its the price a s rhe data that makes me choose but its not so much that it's also the fact that the services  are not the same  even if pm is buying from tells or not. Pm is much faster and the services do t drop in my area where when I had tells on a pay as you go plan I barely had service fpr some reason. I have a top pf the line fold phone so it's not the phone. My mom is with bell and she's having a heck of a time with service being dropped or hearing ans her plan isn't like these ones ans most ppl are stick on that plan until their monthly runs out so they can't switch like us. I wish. When you think about bouncing around think of the service before you do as you might not have as good service.  I notice pm is the best as far as that goes. I just wish they'd offer a. It better deals  for the ones who pay fpr 3 mo.ths in advanced after taxes a we are relaly paying less for is the tax amount. My plan used ro be 45 plus tax then it was 55 total now it's 5t plus tax unless I take 3 in advanced then I don't have to pay the extra 5 bucks per month but kms tull taxed badly

Lorianne16
Good Citizen / Bon Citoyen

I've even posted my referral code to fb but no one has joined but its a great way to get cash off. I guess they need ro see rhe deals maybe better.  I k ow I used ro woek for bell ans I was thr top sales on my team and in billing I did alpt of fixes and gained more clients that way.  I loved it. Od love to do it again but its a great way to take it to fb and speak about public mobile ans gain more referrals. I don't beleive ppl know enough about them ans rhe deals  or points ans if they did they'd bite too. Kinda like selling but for yourself lol not onky that the internet is alot better as far as service locations go compared ro bell ans a few others.  Its better for me to use my cell for internet at home as I don't get a very good signal and it's way better driving around ans in the bush I get great reception. I may have the odd day its not so good but if I reload n shut my cell down it resets it ans it's fine for a while again.

Lorianne16
Good Citizen / Bon Citoyen

I change .ine all thr time because I run out of data. That was before I had unlimited as well. As I watch TV wirh mine in ytube. I now have 3 months for 150 300g unlimited  usually I pay 55 plus tax. But I used ro switch around  unsub a d add the 100 as off and on closer to my plan ending and renewing. I was using more than 100g sometimes. Depends but I also used to keep my cell on data save too n you can on TV as well. But the thing is when I would switch plans back n forth id have to accept unlimited data and the plan without at 100g at a time. They do not have that plan now with unlimited unless you take a smaller data plan or 3 months in advanced. The taxes on that is terrible. But I fo lile paying 3 months  at once then I don't need to worry about data for a while or payment. But soem months  I don't even use the 100g it transfers to thr next month  a.d say the next month I may run short. So by the third I'm over the 300g. Which is odd b3cuse I watch the dame things or do the same thing as I did when I paid monthly. I may fall a sleep n leave a video on once or twice but its not enough to chew uo that much data. So I'm not sure what's going on with that. Today I renew Tom id like to just do one month but I am u able to due to the unlimited  data not being on the old plan. But I would u sub and add a new plan if I was 5 or 10 days before renewal in order to keep my data on as I use it for tv. I find it way  better than ordering internet and cheaper. So i know it's possible to renew before your renewal date worh any other  plan of ya find yourself using too many mins or data. Just unsubsidized ans add the end plan but you need internet to do this either wifi at home or at a library etc or free connection lol just a heads up.
