Hi, I paid for a new subscription for 5G and US and Mexico. My phone only says 3G on it. How do I know if it will work in Mexico and is on 5G.

I never got a confirmation from Public Mobile saying I subscribed, although my account does say that.

@Droosh   When you change plan you are given two options, "change now" or "change on renewal":  If you select "change now" there will be an immediate plan change and you will be charged the new amount right away but there's no pro-rated refund for the unused portion of the previous plan.  That's why unless you need an immediate change it is best to select "change on renewal", then you don't lose anything.

All you should have to do on landing is enable data roaming in your phone settings.  In fact you can do that now as there won't be any extra roaming charges.  If you get a text message suggesting you buy an add on you can ignore it as it doesn't apply if you already have a Canada-US-Mexico plan.

Do you know if I have to do anything upon landing?  Or will it just work?

Thank you for your kindness and answers.  I have changed it to the LTE setting and i am having faith that the phone will work in Mexico with the subscription I have purchased.  I purchased it on the 15th and my old plan renewed on the 9th.  Will I get reimbursed for some of the fees from the old  plan?

I have clearly paid for the subscription, but when I go to the add-on page it just shows to purchase US add ons.

yes, the iPhone XS will work in Mexico even with 3G.  But XS should have 4G or LTE

thank you for this information.  I have put it on the LTE setting now.

@Droosh   Go to Settings - Cellular - Cellular Data Options - Voice and Data then set the phone to LTE.  I don't think it will show 5G because only iPhone 12 and newer get 5G but you can get up to the same speed with a 5G plan using LTE.  That phone should work in the US and Mexico but not if you leave it on 3G setting.

I have no idea how to even do that.  When I go into my phone, the only option is 3G.  It is a XS phone and I have had telus 5G before (I think) so I think my phone can do it.  However, I am not so good with technology and just want to check to see if it will work in Mexico.

if you check your plan description on My Account Subscription & addon page, it will show clearly that it covers Mexico

@Droosh   what phone do you  have?  Probably you have it set to 3G in the Settings.  If it can only do 3G it won't work in the USA but might in parts of Mexico.  You can only get 5G if your phone is capable so we need to know what phone you have for both questions.  PM doesn't always send a confirmation, you'll know if your PM sim works for incoming and outgoing calls and texts and also data.

I presume your device is 5G capable, @Droosh

Under network connections, can you manually select the network type?

Perhaps try resetting network connections?
