I've tried to join many times. Every time I add my existing phone number, it says to enter a valid Canadian number. I don't want to change my number. Can someone help with this?

From what I saw, a customer couldn't port a Carmanville number to Rogers either. Isn't Local Calling Guides' main purpose to tell you if a call is local?  As for CNAC, this is an official source for which numbers have been allocated to carriers.

There are some cases when the rate centre name is different than expected, but that's a matter of being able to find it in the list.  That list does actually say which rate centres that a carrier is allowed to use.  If a carrier that doesn't have its own phone numbers for that same location, a nunber can't be ported in from there.

But if that city doesn't have a particular provider then you can't use that particular provider in that city. Is that about right? Is that going to be everywhere (obviously smaller lesser-served areas)

While your nunber is for Carmanville, your friends are using Gander phone numbers. Sorry, but Carmanville numbers cannot be transferred to Public Mobile. For mobile, you'll have to choose between Bell and Eastlink.

 

You could take a new phone from a different city, but others might have to pay long distance fees to reach you.

Just hoping we can get the OP the best source of advice to help them establish whether they can join.

 

They've provided the first 7 digits in subsequent post, wonder if that's helpful to anyone here to examine.  That's in or around Carmanville, NFLD.

 

Seems the OP feels their area is ineligible.

My number starts with 709-534. I guess pm doesn’t offer service here. Others I know with service in my community with pm has different numbers starting with 709-571.

Apparently the others I was referring to in my community have a different area code. I guess I can’t join public mobile.

Well "cities" would be a stretch....but if communities are are limited to one exchange then yes I see your point.

I believe that at this point, it would not be wise for the OP to continue with the activation. Until it's known which city that the OP is tyring to port a number from, this could quite possiblity lead to a sitution in which the person has to take a phone number from a didfferent city and is unable to port the phone number in.  Not all phone numbers can be ported in. if the phone number is from a city that Telus Mobility/Public Mobile does not offer numbers for, a number from that same city cannot be ported in.

Although I am sure you have already had your issue resolved just an FYI....taking a temporary number does not mean you would lose the use of your phone number. It merely allows your pm service to be set up with a separate phone number. Your phone number with bell will remain with active service until ported in successfully to pm at which time your bell service will cancel and your active pm service would now assume your ported number from bell.

Which city in Newfoundland?  It's possible that there are no phone numbers available for your city. If Public Mobile doesn't offer phone numbers for this same city, your phone number cannot be ported to them.

I'll ask the obvious question.

 

Are you entering a Canadian number, @nettajg ?   I've read other posts with similar problem but believe it is rare.

 @nettajg : Can you try with just the numbers? No other characters? This is during activation right? You could also take a new number and then transfer later.

Which city is the phone number from? Not all numbers can be ported in. Also, if it's a Koodo prepaid number, you need to activate with a new number first and then ask the moderators afterwards to perform the number port.
