Does wifi data used kept separate from the data included in the plans (ie. 4 GB wifi data used but only 1GB regular data so only need plan for 1 GB)

Yes, wifi usage is separate from data usage - though sometimes you might be eligible for a data promo too, which would have a separate meter in your usage section!

Yes Wifi data is separate from the cell phone plan data. Your wifi data usage DOES NOT affect your cell phone plan data consumption.

To managed Data plan:
Default to stop using mobile data and Only activate Mobile Data when you're NOT in WiFi zone. To turn it on/off in your phone's settings. (On iPhone, tap the “Settings” icon, tap “Cellular,” then turn on or off “Cellular Data.” On Android, tap the “Settings” icon, tap “Network & internet,” tap “Mobile network” and turn on or off “Mobile data.”)

Wifi data does not count towards your plan data.
If you require 1gb or less data plan then the 25$ plan will fit you best. It gives you unlimited canada wide mins, if you set up auto pay you will 500mb + 500mb bonus for setting up auto pay
Im always connected to wifi i only use plan data when i have to or if wifi is not available.
Cheers
