VoLTE will soon be required for US Roaming -- T-Mobile shutting down 2G Sep 1

T-Mobile will be shutting down it's 2G network in the US on Sep 1, 2024, the last provider to run 2G. So from that point on you will have to have working VoLTE to make calls while in the US.

T-Mobile has been quietly shrinking the 2G footprint this year already.  The 2G network is like a glaucoma patient.

They were going to shut it down April 1 this year but changed their minds.  On their own web site the current statement is a bit ambiguous "Capacity and coverage of T-Mobile's 2G (GSM) network is expected to change starting as early as September 1, 2024"

@umnikke8, thanks for sharing this. I won't be surprised to see more posts here as I'm sure there are a lot of non-whitelisted phones with Canada-US plans that will not be able to make/receive calls. At least data and texting should be fine so there are work arounds through apps
