Verizon phone not working with new Public Mobile card

This was purchased on Amazon a couple of years ago and was using a Virgin Mobile card fine. I just swtiched over to Public Mobile and all I can do is text. If I receive a call it only goes to voice mail.

@TerryHansler

Did you put the Sim card in another working unlocked phone? Does the call issue persist? If so this is likely a provisioning issue with the Sim card upon activation. I suggest you contact customer support and ask them to provision the Sim card to the account. This should resolve the issue.

Edit:

If provisioning is the issue you will have the same problem on the new phone.

So we gave up and have ordered an unlocked Samsung phone on Amazon.

Could be 3G related. Virgin has VoLTE and PM doesn't.

Does this mean that you never replied to the text message that Virgin Mobile sent you?  You would have had to have your Virgin SIM card in the phone to receive that message.  You need to replace your Virgin SIM card, insert it into your phone, and then ask Public Mobile to restart the porting process.

Hi @TerryHansler your moto e4 should work

I think it is a 3G network issue

Try Reset all network

if that still not helps, try to change the Preferred network to 3G only and see if it can connects in 3G

@TerryHansler being quite an old phone the s4 is probably locked to another carrier

Hi @TerryHansler

so, at this stage , only voice not working ?  and voice never work on this phone with PM sim?

can you test the sim in another phone?

I installed the sim into my old Galaxy S4 and it immediately asked for  a pin number. The number we created isn't excepted.

Data has no role in native texting. If you are even mention data that means you are using non native SMS app (default coming with the phone).

Native texting aka SMS uses provider's network ONLY.

He has almost used up his 250mb data limit already and can send and receive texts. Just can't phone out or receive

Can you try any other SIM from other providers?

The customer is able to use text messaging. If the phone were locked, that wouldn't work either.

We do not know if he is using mobile network AND native SMS app or some SMS app through WiFi.

True, but that's not text messaging.  The point is taken about instant messages that look like SMS but really aren't.

Hi @TerryHansler could be compatibility issue.  what brand and model is the phone?

what error message??

Virgin Mobile Canada devices (ones that use SIM cards) would be compatible as the same type of network/the same shared network is used. I"m aware that the device might not be originally from Virgin, but if it is, it's compatible.  Only an unlocked phone not originally from Virgin could be incompatible with Public (lack of 3g/HSPA network support).

Did you request a phone number from Virgin Mobile?  If you did make a request for that, it's possible that the phone number porting/trasferring hasn't completed.  For number porting, you would have had to leave yoru Virgin SIM card in the phone to approve the phone number transfer.  Also, incoming phone calls would still be going to your Virgin Mobile service, but if that SIM card isn't in a working phone, the calls would go straight to your Virgin Mobile voicemail.
