I just purchased plan that include US talk, text and data. Neither worked the first time I tried it in Michigan. Any tricks I need to know about?

I have travelled to Michigan frequently and have had no problems with my US plan. I leave Data Roaming toggled on all the time whether I'm in Canada or the US. My phone automatically connects to T-Mobile a few minutes after entering at Port Huron. I then travel west to Flint and north from there to Sault Ste Marie and have no issues with connectivity. (My phone is an iPhone Xs.)

the US has shut down 3G for calling...so now we need a phone that has volte enabled and is on the PM whitelist for volte supported cells. If yours isn't on this list, you'd need a phone that can drop to 2G for calling and be near a cell tower. Best is to just upgrade your phone to something on the list if you plan on being in US frequently.
To check if your device is VoLTE-Roaming enabled, please check this list:

Hey @wineguygk
What phone do you have? First, your phone must have VoLTE enabled. Check Google if your phone has it.
Go into network settings, turn off automatic and then choose T-Mobile. Make sure your data roaming is turned on too. Then reboot. If that doesn't work, then switch it to AT&T and reboot.

@wineguygk do you have a VoLTE enabled phone?
If possible, put your phone to 4G/LTE and connect to T-Mobile or AT&T.
If calls don't work, put your phone to 2G and connect to T-Mobile. From the settings menu, turn on data roaming. Connect manually and remove 5G if you have it.
I hope this will be helpful.
