US data not working well in Detroit

How do I know if I have Volte and do I need it? I couldn't get the Uber app to work due to no data and it made for a very long night. Please help before I go back and this happens again.

Thanks, I had no idea

@Shrekky25  My guess is you were connected to 5G AT&T, which is problematic. 4G is more reliable when roaming.

I'll try those next time I'm in the states. Thanks for the suggestions

hI @Shrekky25

what you meant by "All browsing"?  so browsing work?

if it does, then try to uninstall and reinstall Uber app

As stated by others, 2 common issues can be solved by:

1) Setting your preferred network to 4G/LTE instead of 5G

2) Manually connecting to T-Mobile if you're having issues with AT&T.

And of course making sure your network settings have Data Roaming turned On.

I added some more to my previous reply.

I have the Canada/US plan so it should always work.  I had similar issues before in September but was in a more remote area. Spotty is one thing but completely unusable is harder to deal with.

How many days are showing for the add-on out of how many? Like 3/15 or 5/30 or something like that. Click on the little spinner refresh icon lower down by the shop add-ons button to make sure you're seeing current information.

Adding - so yes it's still holding on to Public. Sure, manually set it to T-Mobile or AT&T (if the phone is set on 5G then set it to 4G LTE)

Everything is in Auto but it did say Public in the top left still, maybe next time I try forcing it to something else?

HI @Shrekky25

the VoLTE is for voice only, won't affect your Uber app.  For your data issue, is it just Uber not working? how about regular browsing?

please go to Reset All networks on your phone, this is what it will affect your data

let us know if you can find that option

Like I said, volte won't help data. It sounds like maybe you were in a poor coverage area. Is your network selection set to automatic or has it been manually set to Public? If Public then maybe you were barely holding on to a Public tower in Detroit. Set it to automatic.

I'm back in Canada now, and my phone has Volte capability but can't see it. Samsung S22

Roaming was on. It would flash LTE for a second every so often but not long enough to do anything. Android, Samsung S22

@Shrekky25   Is your phone on the VoLTE compatible list?

Your phone may have a setting that shows although this isn't always reliable.  IPhones in general on PM don't show a VoLTE setting but do have it.  You can test by turning on data and turning off wifi and then making a phone call.  If it drops to 3G then you don't have VoLTE.  You can apparently get around this for phone calls in the US by selecting T-Mobile on 2G.  Edited to add, as dust2dust said, VoLTE is not needed for data.

iphone or Android? Volte wouldn't help using data. On either AT&T or T-Mobile and using 4G LTE, data should work fine. Turn on the roaming data toggle.
