Texting to a 5 or 6 digit number

I am trying to text to a 5 digit number.  It used to send successfully but now when I try, i get "failed to send" message.  When I go to look at the number, it appears my phone wants to add a hyphen after the first 3 digits.  When I try to remove the hyphen manually and save it, it keeps wanting to add the hyphen back in.  Please help.

@Rosie2  Unfortunately, PM does not do a good job supporting short codes. https://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/Plans-Add-Ons/What-short-codes-are-supported-by-Publi...

For those not listed you will need to contact the organization for support: https://www.txt.ca/en/current-short-code-programs/

A potential workaround is the TextNow app which supports some short codes; perhaps the ones you need. https://supportwireless.textnow.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005623986-Verification-With-TextNow

Can you check the region setting on your phone to see if there is an option to to turn off automatic formats and then add number again to your contacts.

@Rosie2, try downloading the free app TextNow. You'll be provided with a free phone number...you'll be able to talk and text for free.

See if it works in your case and let us know.

Not that I am aware of.  Maybe there was an automatic update that I was not aware of.  Or maybe when my updated security software was installed, it might have done something?

I am honestly not sure what network it is.  One text is to HYDRO ONE and the other is to a radio station in Kitchener

I tried both and did not work

@Rosie2 Is the 5 digit number to are trying to text with Rogers, Fido or Chatr? It seems that there is an on going problem with Texting between the Rogers and Telus line of companies. From the Rogers side. See link  https://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/Plans-Add-Ons/Re-Not-able-to-receive-text-messages-fr...

Did you do a software update to your phone recently, which may have caused this?

@Rosie2 can you try to add the number manually into the send message field and send the text? If it works, try adding it into your contacts then. Thanks.
