Hi, I'm about to sign up for a new service with PM. I need a new SIM and it will be a week before I can open this new line. If I sign up today, am I start paying today or once I activate my line?

And depending on the phone you have, compatible eSIM phones can download the eSIM right away and are usually at no cost. I went this route having never used an eSIM and the process went very smooth for me and I didn't have to wait or leave my house to get it.

once you successfully activate your new PM account, that's when your account start date is. 30 days later is when your next renewal will occur, and every 30 days after that.

why not get a sim card yourself first? yes, it is free if you ask them to send you , but can be 3 weeks wait. Get from Amazon for $5 or Telus and Koodo stores for $10
but yes, you activate now first, you locked in the price in case any changes
