Thanks @darlicious  I was also  wondering if we can load enough fund into Available fund  first and then use the suspend/unsuspend/85 days trick.  With enough fund there, we don't have to worry about issue with the credit card payment.   Thanks

If you take the proper steps preparing for your service to be suspended you shouldn't encounter any issues. Keep autopay enabled and top up your account $15 to be immediately available for the mid holiday travel reactivation. Once suspended via lost/stolen your available funds ($15) and autopay are blocked from being accessed by pm's payment system.

The only thing out of your control is unscheduled system maintenance which is why you don't wait until the 90th day to reactivate. You can write down your account email, password pin # and phone number and leave it with a trusted friend or family member in case you can't access the internet with a contingency plan if you don't contact them by day 88 to say you have reactivated your service so they can log in and unsuspend your service via lost/stolen. With $15 in your available funds this will occur automatically.

Or leave your pm sim card and a $20 pm voucher to load via 611 once they put your sim card in a working phone. But lost/stolen to unsuspend the service requires account access  so this will only work if you removed autopay to suspend your services.

If there is $90 in the available fund, the account will be active the whole 6 months period, which is good and safe.

However, if OP willing to do a bit of work , suspend for 85 days and activate for 30 days and then suspend again, OP only needs to pay $30.    Of course, there is a bit of work and some customers had issue manual pay while they are oversea and would need mod involved.

@naomi_0729...if it's important to you to keep your PM number..

before you go lower your plan to the $15 level...then put $90 on your account in Available Funds. When you get back to Canada you can upgrade to whichever plan is current at that time.

Here is a thread about extended absence:

Some have suggested ported to a voip service like Fongo ($25 fee).  You can then port back to a mobile company when you get back (no fee).  You will lose whatever rewards that you have with Public mobile when/if you port back.

Not a pause for 6 months.  Most PM allow is to suspend for 90 days or your number will be gone and account will be closed.

A workaround is to pay every 80+ days to keep the account alive, in your case, you might just have to pay once or twice.

Another way to keep the number (but unable to keep the reward) is to port your number out to some free VoIP service. and will port it back in to PM when you are back from the trip.

However, at your next plan renewal date, you can defer payment and place the account in suspension for up to 90 days before making the next payment which will restore your account to active status.Note that if more than 90 days have passed in suspend, your account and SIM card will be permanently deactivated.

Another option would be change to the $15 plan to maintain your account.

More or less....

You can suspend your service for up to 90 days before having to reactivate your service for at least 30 days at which time you can then suspend for up to another 90 days. However it is recommended to reactivate around day 85 in case you run into any issues....you will then have a few extra days to sort out any problems so you don't lose your account and phone number. Here are your options:

  1. You can turn off autopay and allow the account to suspend at the end of your current 30 day cycle but this is your least advantageous option. Pay and reactivate by day 85 or so.
  2. If you have an account balance that exceeds your plan amount then you need to suspend via the lost/stolen feature in your account before midnight eastern on the evening of your renewal. Then on day 85 or so resume your service to pay and reactivate.
  3. Suspending via lost/stolen before midnight eastern will keep your voicemail active allowing you retrieve voicemail and any verification sent by phone calls. However your rewards will not be applied to your account. Moderator contact after paying and reactivating is necessary to have the rewards applied manually.
  4. Voicemail can be accessed by calling your pm number from a different phone by calling your phone # and pressing * once connected and entering your 4 digit voicemail pin #.
  5. If you don't have an account balance or enough balance to cover your plan amount you can suspend via lost/stolen after midnight but before 2 am eastern on the day of your renewal. Once your rewards have been applied (usually by 12:15 am et) then suspend your account. Voicemail access will be lost.
  6. Switching to the $15 plan with rewards helping to cover a partial or full amount of your plan allows you to call forward your pm number to your fongo number. Remove your sim card from your phone after call forwarding your pm phone # and put it somewhere safe before you leave Canada. Now any incoming calling to your pm number will ring thru to your fongo number while on wifi or mobile data (w/a local or global sim card) You can access your fongo voicemail for all voicemail messages.

Happy travels to your home country....I hope all is well.
