I bought a newer phone which has a 30 day money back guarantee, but it requires I purchase a newer nano vs the current micro SIM my current older smartphone has been using for over 5 years. Will I ever be able to reactivate that old micro SIM with PM (same phone number) in case the newer phone is returned? (open box purchase) Thanks, Rudy

If you do not have a tricut sim card you could always make a templat and attempt to trim the sim card yourself? Did you purchase your phone from pm? If so it should have come with a free unactivated sim card that you could then perform a sim swap with in your account. If you did not recieve the free sim card contact customer support and ask for a credit to your account so you can just purchase a new unactivated sim card from a local retailer.

@rudavil note that @BKNS27 has a good suggestion that your SIM card might actually be a nano SIM inside a micro SIM card adapter. I don't recall when exactly Public Mobile made the switch, but for quite some time all new SIM cards have come this way. If that's the case, you can just pop the inner nano card out of the adapter ring and put it in your new phone. If you don't like the phone, send it back, and put the nano SIM back in the adapter and then into your previous phone.
Now, if your card really is a Micro SIM card and you do need to buy a nano card, then you will not be able to re-use your Micro SIM card after switching the active SIM card number in your account. However, you would be able to put your new nano SIM card into the micro adapter ring that comes with it and put it in your previous phone, should you need to do so.

@rudavil No worry. All you need to do is to get a new SIM card.
Once you get the sim card, you can make a change sim card request and your existing number will tie to the new sim card and you can use it on your new phone.
Just login to My Account, click Change SIM card, enter the new sim card number and pick one of the way to receive the 2FA security code
Once that is done, the system will register the info to the new sim card and you can put the new sim in your new phone
