In the $400 range. Specifically interested in Display and Camera quality.
PM compatibility a must.

the phone has all the bands needed for PM. Data would work without problem.
Voice, it will use 3G network for voice and not VoLTE. But because PM is using single band 3G in some area, so, your voice calls might not work perfectly

We're now looking at the Nord N30 5G. It's listed connectivity bands are:
GSM: 850/900/1800/1900MHz; WCDMA: B1/2/4/5/8
FDD-LTE: B1/2/3/4/5/7/8/12/17/18/20/26/28/66/13/71
TD-LTE: B38/39/40/41/48
5G SA: n2/5/12/25/66/71/41/77/78
5G NSA: n2/5/25/66/71/41/77/78
LTE: 4×4 MIMO
Is it compatible with PM?

I second this one. You can buy a few models back, like a pixel 6 or something, for fairly cheap and it's still a perfectly capable phone. It is what I am currently using.

If you can find a Samsung A35 for $400. That is the one I would recommend. I have 2 friends that got the A35 when they introduced it at a discount price of $399. It is now replaced with the A36 at a higher price.

Sorry, I have no experience with Umidigi. Maybe @will13am
Also, an Apple person myself.

The list you link to is definitely out of date. The phone I'm looking for is for my wife. I've been using a Oneplus 12R for over 6 months on PM with NO issues. (And, VoLTE is clearly working.)
She's definitely looking for something better than the Motorola G, but still in the Android universe.

To confirm if your phone will work with Public Mobile, please see this link. These are currently and mildly out of date lists of what can work.
https://www.publicmobile.ca/en/get-help/articles/volte
Now, the list is a bit outdated and there are phones not on the list that will work.
I think it was @Dunkman who has a cool phone he recommends that is not on the list but works very well. Sorry, I can't remember what it was but I'm sure he'll kindly share it with you here. Umidigi I think?
I know this is $200 more than your budget however I just grabbed one of these a while back and I love it. But I'm an iPhone guys so.... Amazon iPhone 14 Plus $600
Yes it's refurbished but I think it came with a 1 year warranty. Battery life was 92% which was fine with me. Battery replacement is only about $100 which isn't bad IMO.
Or if you prefer Android, the Motorola G 5G at Costco is regular priced $209 but often goes on sale for $180
Good luck.

I am a fan of Pixel made by Google. Google is the leading Android phone manufracturer and their camera technology is cutting edge. I take a lot of photos and I no longer need to carry a full size camera. Buy direct from Google and see if you can get a trade-in rebate on your old phone. Good luck.
