Do NOT buy/use the US roaming add-on's until PM/Telus get the necessary technology changes made as others mentioned.   Instead you want to buy a local US SIM after arriving or purchase a travel SIM before hand.

As mentioned before, Public mobile US roaming may not be reliable at the present time with the decommissioning of the 3G network in the USA.  Public mobile is working on VoLTE service which would solve this issue in the future, but the timeline is unknown.

Here is an article on how to purchase an add on:

https://www.publicmobile.ca/en/on/get-help/articles/purchase-add-ons-through-self-serve

You don't need to cancel. After 10 days, the roaming package will expire.

If you have issues with your roaming service (ie. not useable while traveling), you can contact CSA afterwards and CSA may offer a remedy for your troubles.

Hi @edlau1 -- Keep in mind that voice service in the USA is reliant on a 3G network, which is in the process of being shut down in the US, so be prepared for only data and texting to function. Here is Public Mobile's official statement from the add-ons page:

"Important: As of February 22nd, 2022, some United States (U.S) carriers will begin turning down certain 3G/HSPA networks in the U.S. As a result, some customers using U.S. roaming add-ons may be impacted by differences in coverage or service quality (including 9-1-1 calls) when roaming in the U.S. This shutdown will not impact your service in Canada."

With that said, you can purchase a 10 day US roaming add-on through the "My Account" portal. The service starts counting down 240 hours as soon as you buy it, so depending how long you will be in the USA you could purchase the add on before you leave, or even once you arrive.

here are the 10-day roaming add-on's that are available:

  • Unlimited U.S. Talk, Text and 250MB Data Bundle - $20

  • Unlimited U.S. Talk and Text Bundle - $15

  • Unlimited U.S. Talk Only - $8

And Data-only add-ons:

  • 250MB - $10
  • 500MB - $15
  • 1GB - $20

Public mobile's USA roaming partners are AT&T and T-Mobile. If you find your service isn't working well with whatever your phone automatically selects, try manually choosing the other network carrier to see if your service works better. Some here have reported that even though T-Mobile is shutting down their 3G network, many places still have a 2G network available, so you can manually connect to that 2G network to make phone calls, and then switch back to LTE for faster data.
