Problems switching to new phone

LucasLucas

I recently switched to a Galaxy S7 Edge. I put in my SIM card and it recognised it, but some stuff is working while other stuff isn't. I can send and receive texts and I can receive phone calls, but when I try to check my voice mail, it says that I'm out of minutes, even though I haven't used any. Data often doesn't work, and when it does, it only works for certain things, and it says on my phone that I've used more data than it shows on my Public Mobile account.

I changed APN settings as recommended here: https://www.publicmobile.ca/en/on/get-help/articles/set-up-data-on-an-android-phone but I'm still having problems. Has anyone had any similar problems? What is the solution?

I moved the proxy and changed the port

@LucasLucas : Which one...moving proxy or using the different one? Those MVNO's often have values in them but if it's working for you now then great.

APN type might want to have ,mms added and maybe ,supl and ,dun - no spaces.

This worked, thank you very much! The only options below were bearer (unspecified) and mobile virtual network operator type (none).

@LucasLucas : Can you tell us any further fields at the end?

Another option is to try:

MMS Proxy = mmscproxy.mobility.ca

MMS port = 8799

Oh hold on...

Move that ip address down to Multimedia message Proxy and blank out Proxy and keep the rest (but I'd still like to know any further down fields)

And you only need to flip in/out of airplane mode to reset.

I added it and restarted my phone, but still only Gmail works

You might have a couple more fields at the end.

The APN type might need some work but let's see what you get with the http.

That particular field is for MMS.  It should not affect data.  Just having sp.mb.com correct should enable data.  Even an empty APN type field could work, although it is best to include default, mms just in case there are multiple APNs available on the phone.

Try selecting LTE/GSM/UMTS instead of Global.

Glad you're making some progress... quick check - if you connect to your (home?) wifi, do your apps work okay?  Just trying to narrow down the problem and eliminate some of what I hope to be obvious non-issues.

maybe the phone was counting it on the monthly cycle and not 30 days

also, if the phone was used on another SIM card right before you change to PM SIM.. the phone data count would include data used on both SIM card.. (unless you are certain that you updated the cycle date to reflect the first day you switched to PM)

how much the difference we are talking about??

@LucasLucas

Can you call out to other numbers beside voice mail?

Maybe try dialing one of PM voice mail access numbers:

https://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/Using-Your-Service/Updated-list-of-Voicemail-Access-N...

If that works, set your dealer to call that number to check your voice mail.

Maybe screenshot your APN settings.  There might be one minor thing that needs to be changed.

Some basic troubleshooting advice:

reboot phone

network reset of phone

toggle airplane mode on, then off.

removed and re-insert your SIM card.
