Good day,
I have a son (6 years old) who was recently diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. He uses a continuous glucose monitor to track his blood glucose levels. In order to do so, he must have a phone that is connected to the internet. I am looking for a plan that would suite his needs. I am not sure if it is possible to have a plan without adding a cell phone number. I do not want his phone connected to a number, since he has no need for it, as well as it will be disruptive to his class if calls come in while he is at school. He requires the sound to be on in order to hear alarms from his monitor. I am looking for a plan that just includes a data package. Is that possible?
Thanks,
Nicole

That's what I said? I reacted to OP's statement (if we would be able to easy properly multi quote I would have...):

I'd take the information in the provided link with a pinch of salt - unless they are hiding it very well or it's only available once you are an account holder, Lucky's $15/750MB data only plan is no longer available for new sign-ups.

@nicolemasters If you don't want a phone number, one option may be to consider a wifi hotspot and connect the phone to wifi. It would require carrying a 2nd device but would not require a dataplan for the phone. Something like this device,
You would have to keep track of how data heavy the app is and make sure the hotspot has adequate amount of data loaded. There are many different options this is just one example.

After a quick browse on all (known to me Canadian) prepaid / tier 3 carriers, you'd have to look at data-only aka "tablet" or "smart watch" plans with a tier 2 or main brand. They will likely only sell it as an additional line to be added to a full plan?
BTW, if the connection is tied to a SIM or eSIM there needs to be an identifying "phone number". On the tablet plan I used to have with the dog brand voice and text were disabled.

There is no data-only plan here. Just turn off all sounds for the phone and texts.
Have you looked in to those kid watches? I'm not sure of the wisdom of a 6 year old carrying around a device all the time.

No, PM does not have data only plan. You can try to lock the dialer using some app so he cannot make calls, but I don't think that an stop incoming. But with incoming calls, you can use Forwarding all calls to another number
Also, PM is a prepaid provider and service will get interrupted if payment is not made, which could happen if Pre-authorized payment failed. So, if the connection is critical , I suggest you to make a manual payment ahead of renewal day manually to assure no interruption could happen
But if you are really looking for data only plan, check with Fido or Primus, Zoomer, they have it
