Personal Info Warning

JL9

Just thought I'd take this out of that thread and put it a little more front and centre. To see if we can get some sort of messages at the top of the community screen or perhaps on any reply/post screen, that warns people to not provide any personal info (phone number, email etc etc) as this is a public forum. Could help with that problem as it seems to happens quite a bit.

Those that have  not experienced using a blog type of website, don’t have the preparedness  to not realize what they should not post....nor would they read the rules, TOC or warnings.

HI @Spudster   true.  And if the person have some knowledge about internet, they should know Community is a public space and why post all the person info.  Or some people just don't know how to protect their own information

That is a good point, common sense isn't so common nowadays but should lessen the amount of times it happens at least to some degree.

@JL9

Personally, you raise a very good issue and it’s something that should be more front and center.

The thing is, the same people who don’t read or understand certain community guidelines are likely to miss anything, even if it’s in front of their face.

Harsh comment, i know, but likely true.

Agreed, guess we will see what comes of it.

I don't know when they changed it (I think they changed the name when they consolidated forums), but the new name "Get Support" is really misleading. Not just people posting personal info, but even "Please fix this" is a clear indication that the name "Get Support" leads people to think this is where they can, um, get support. 😞

@JL9 I agree, some people think they are talking to customer service on the community. What they don't realize it's a PUBLIC forum, as anyone can come and see your personal info. So, I agree, there should be a mini warning like: "The content you are about to post is publicly available, please do not post your personal information  like email, phone #, etc. For more specific help and customer service, please click on this link to submit a ticket." With bold lettering.

Me too - so one extra layer of security or at least a notification may help with that a little. I'd hope that people would be a little more mindful but 🤷‍♂️

HI @JL9  many people thought Community is where they talk to PM directly and hence include all the info.  They don't know that we are just here to try to help  and actual helps from PM needs a ticket

But I see CS Agent has been more involved with removing person info, which is a good sign

More often is an Oracle will remove the personal info as soon as it comes to their attn. @Dunkman has been quick to spot those types of issues, as have all other Oracles as well.

It surprises me, how often people will post critical info to a forum that any recidivist is more that happy to harvest said info.
