I only have one bar showing, which occasionally goes up 2 bars, then quickly reverts back to 1 bar …don’t know if that has anything to do with it, but my phone just recently dropped 2 calls in the middle of a conversation.

It could just be a poor network connection. Try toggling airplane mode on/off to get a brand new connection to the network.

As for the call dropping issue, several customers have experience this problem. It might be a Telus network issue since Koodo customers also are complaining online.
You can try the following fixes:
Manually select the phone network to 4G/LTE instead of Auto.
From a different forum (reddit, RFD), one customer had the following fix:
For iPhone:
settings>>>cellular>>>Primary>>>network selection>>> turn off automatic network selection and reboot
If that does not work, you may want to submit at ticket for CSA help. Sometimes CSA can refresh your account on the backend and calling works better.

We live on the edge of a Dead zone. Dropped calls are starting to happen to us more than usual.

It's been happening a lot for everyone. Happened to me yesterday on the phone for work. My boss thought I hung up on her. LOL. Trust me, I would have LOVED to do it intentionally but eh...
Best you can do is reach out to PM and tell them about the dropped calls and signal lost. Get them to reset your network on their end.
