Number porting and SIM card issue

jessica9

Hi there, I recently moved back from Portugal and would like to start a new phone plan. I continued to pay my public mobile account so I could keep my phone number but I lost the SIM card. How can I port my new number over without the SIM card?

@jessica9   if you want to stay with PM, get a new sim card from Telus/Koodo

If you want to port out, you still need to get a new sim card from Telus/Kood, because you need  a working account to reply PAT (Porting Authentication Text)

Am I completely misinterpreting what the OP is asking? I think she is wanting to continue with her account that she has been paying while she was away. Then she lost the sim for here.

I think she's confusing some terminology, in particular saying port and new plan. She said "would like to start a new phone plan".  I don't think she signed up anywhere else. I don't think she even has a sim for anywhere.

So please @jessica9 - enlighten us on what your intentions are. I think you just a need a new sim and change the sim on your existing account here and away you go. But maybe I'm completely misinterpreting.

  • after activated new SIM to you can port out ensure that you have received a validation SMS text from your PM service provider, and that you have followed the instructions in the message within 90 minutes to approve the number transfer.
Your PM old SIM card must be inside your device and your account with your PM must still be active so you can receive and respond to the SMS and authorize the request. Please do not replace your PM old SIM card with your NEW compnay SIM until you have responded to this message SMS reply YES
To given the approval to transfer your old number to new provider.

As long as your PM acct is still active. You're not porting your number...you just need a new sim. Once you get new sim, log in to your account and find the Change Sim tab.

HI @jessica9   while you can login with the email option, you still need to get a text from PM to approve porting.  There is no exception to this unless you moving to Koodo or Telus.  So, you likely still need to get a PM sim card for $10

Not port. What new number? If you have an account then buy a sim and log in to your account and use the change sim feature. There should be an email option for verifying.
