Not getting calls in the US today

DennisDoerk

I have the US-Can-Mex plan and an in the US. People calling me are getting put through to VM.  I am getting texts and data is working, albeit slowly. I've tried both ATT and T-Mobile on LTE on my Pixel 3, so no 5g. Not sure what the problem is. I've tried about all I can from this end. Getting a bit frustrating as I've got important calls coming.

I should make a clarification. I moved my Public Sim card over to my old Xiaomi 9 where it works on T-Mobile 3g. I put a Mint card in my Pixel 3XL and it is working on their 4g network without issue.

Thanks to you and all those who commented. I was able to get texting and phoning working on the T-Mobile network with 3g.

@DennisDoerk, adding to what's been shared already, try manually connecting to T-Mobile's 2G signal if there are any towers near you, worked for us but we found better option was to use whatsapp or other messaging apps over data, we found it used very little data

@DennisDoerk   The USA shut down their 3G networks back in 2022 so a phone that needs to drop to 3G for voice calls because it can't do VoLTE (Voice over LTE) no longer works there.  Everyone in the USA had to get a VoLTE capable (and carrier approved) phone back then.  There may be some residual 2G availability on T-Mobile, so you could try that although it was supposed to be shut down Sept 1st you may get lucky.  Otherwise since text and data are not affected you have the option of downloading a voip app like TextNow or Fongo to be able to make and receive calls on an alternate number.

I can't make any promises but you can MAYBE go to Bestbuy in the US and get this. It's not on the list per say but this should actually work.

Maybe you can ask to try it first before buying if they have a sample phone or something.

@DennisDoerk

your Pixel 3 is not on the whitelist of volte enabled phones. You will likely not be able to makes calls while in USA until you get a cell that is on that list...

EDIT: I see why. The pixel 3 isn't an approved phone to work in the US. It's not going to work sadly. You need a Pixel 4. Here's the whitelist of approved phones.
