Not Roaming

Fran1

My phone thinks I am in the US and so blocks all my calls and texts. I am NOT in the US!

Thanks. You are probably right. I am not worried about being charged as I don't have Roaming anyway. It would just be nice to be able to use my phone at home.

US Border coverage is really quite good with Telus/Koodo/Public Mobile.

I have a Nokia 5 and it is a network problem, not a phone problem. Apparently this happens to other people in the area  and they have phoned their Customer Services agents to request that they are not charged for roaming when in this area. I will find out what network they are on.

It is frustrating not to be able to talk to an agent.

Public Mobile does not charge for extra for anything that you haven't already paid for.

This isn't a netowrk problem unless there's actually no Public Mobile network available there. The selection of network is a phone issue and Public can't do anything from their end. As suggested earlier, the only way to prevent a phone from connecting to a roaming network would be to manually select the Public Mobile network.

Thanks for your suggestions. The Moderator said that she checked my number but still I am getting notifications that US roaming applies. And although it says to let her know if it is working, it also says Do not reply to this email. What a run- around! I guess I am the only PM user in this area, which is not covered by PM.

So when you manually scan for networks are you not seeing Public Mobile show up as a choice?

Maybe go somewhere else and scan and find Public Mobile and then turn off the auto choice. No service in this case is better than not able to use service 🙂

For future reference...which border city are you in ?

If public mobile doesn't cover it then neither do telus/koodo/bell/virgin/lucky. Its very unlikely. And you will have the same problem with either of those.

Do you have a way to disable roaming completely on your phone?

What phone are you using?

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I tried them all but none work. I guess Public Mobile does not cover this area, which is a pity. I will change networks as it is easier than moving again.

@Fran1   Before giving up on PM submit a ticket to moderators via SIMon here: https://publicmobile.ca.ada.support/chat/

Type 'rep', select 'contact us', select 'submit ticket' and finish the prompts to submit.

I'm sure PM technicians will be able to help you.

Ask a lot of questions of providers as alot of the share this network. It might be easier to contact @CS_Agent to see if there is specific info yiu need.

To contact a moderator, create a support ticket:
Explain your issue to SIMON, seen below:simon.PNG

Use as few words as possible to allow the BOT to understand (e.g. no service, can't send texts, can't call out or no data). Answer Simon's questions until you get here:

I had that frequently, trying to select operator manually would time out while trying to load the list.

What i had to do is move away from border take a l longer walk toggle airplane mode.

I also learnt to initiate airplane mode in certain areas to avoid this. When i got new phone it got easier, i totally blame it on my old lg (still like that phone though)

Turn roaming on and see if that changes anything. There are no roaming charges with PM so it's safe to try.

Is anything working?

While you're in there, check and see what Network you're connected to.

Make sure Public Mobile is selected as your network in the phone settings as suggested earlier by @hairbag1 .

You can also try removing your SIM (after powering off phone), wait 5 mins and then reinsert SIM and restart the phone.

Are you near the US borderline?  Either way you shouldn't be having this problem.  Is roaming disabled on your phone?
