I am heading out of the continent for 6 months but would like to keep my number (without roaming) and at least keep receiving text messages since 2-factor authentication is used when logging in everywhere now (I notice that I can still receive text messages even if I can't send them). I am wondering how best to do this in a way that saves me money while I'm away, especially since rewards has now changed for those of us who were previously grandfathered on the old rewards system. I am currently on the 10GB for $29 plan. Should I just change my plan to the cheapest one (1GB for $9) just to retain the phone number while away and then just upgrade back to a better plan once I return to Canada? Or is there a better way to do this?

My subscription for this cycle ends on Feb 9. So would it be 85 days from Feb 9 or from today when I unsubscribed?

Even if Public Mobile did offer text messaging services outside of Canada/US/Mex it wouldn't work if you're pausing your service. But regardless they don't offer that anyway.
As for the account credit (from your reward points), if you turn off the 'Subsribe' option the account credit will sit there for up to 90 days without renewing. But as suggested, at day 85 you'll want to resubscribe for a cycle to keep the account and phone number in place (and any available account credit balance), but then you can do another cycle of unsubscribing.

@Helenruch would I still have text messages reach me (again, I only care about it due 2-factor authentication being needed to login to anything lately.
No, text messages won't reach you away from North America, you would need to make alternate arrangements with banks etc. It's not a case of turning them off, just that Public Mobile doesn't have roaming partners outside of North America.

Wow, they really robbed us with making it less flexible! Very unfair to not allow us to switch to lower price plans. The problem is that I have put all my rewards towards credit now, so if I turn it off, it will still take from my credit amount (around $61 right now). I guess I could turn off auto renewal and wait till the credit is drained, then not pay for 3 months from that point? When we are not paying, does PM turn off our service as well, or would I still have text messages reach me (again, I only care about it due 2-factor authentication being needed to login to anything lately.

@Helenruch the plan to downgrade to a cheaper plan temporarily will not work as PM has basically removed this option and only allows the purchase of higher priced plans. However, you can go into the app and turn off the auto renewal under manage subscription then subscription renewal. Once turned off your plan will be put on hold when next renewal doesn't have funds. You have from that date, 90 days to make a payment or your account and number are gone for good.
depending on your renewal date youll prob have to do this twice to get your 6 months away. Best to try reactivating account at day 85 or so in case you run into a problem you have time to fix it before losing the account and number. Rinse and repeat. Hope this helps
