No Canada text add-ons?

Hixbot

I'm on a legacy $13/month 50 outgoing texts/month.  I just hit my limit and I'd like to buy more text messages to get me through the next week before the next billing cycle.  I only see an American roaming 10 day text add-on.  I don't think that will work for me in Canada will it?   What are my options here?  For context, this is the first time I used 50 texts in a single month, and it was due to unusual circumstances that are unlikely to happen again.  I'd like to buy a one-time add-on "Text booster" of sorts..

I considered switching to the 15/month plan, but correct me if I'm wrong.. if I do that I will lose the $2 credit reward for  pre-authorized payments, and will lose the $3 credit reward for loyalty?   As far as I can tell all rewards on current plans work on points and don't offer direct credit off the bill?

So in other words switching to the $15 plan would increase my monthly payments from $8 to $15 (but I would gain access to point rewards)?

Thanks for any help!

thanks @dust2dust   Adding subject works!!

@hTideGnow- This could be it's own topic. It depends on the texting app. Keep typing. The app might just go to MMS for long messages. Or add a subject. That will immediately make it an MMS. Or make a 1 pixel image and insert it and then it becomes an MMS. With images, you can always type things to go along with the image. Others?

HI  @dust2dust

was meant to ask you the other day but too busy.   if I am just sending text, what do I need to do to make sure it send as MMS and not SMS?

I agree with you but unfortunately I was cornered under time constraints to text important contacts and in the end I had to find a solution fast.   Thanks again for your help.

Sorry to hear that you were coerced into changing. Sucks to be forced into something you did not want to do and now paying 50% more than you were before the forced plan change.

I think in your case and you saying this was the first time you have used all your texts and not foreseeing that again that I think I would have used MMS or voip instead for the week until your renewal. Because now, you can't go back.

There's no way any add-on would have been introduced when limited or no-text plans don't exist anymore though.

Thanks to everyone who helped me!  I decided to switch to the $15 a month plan after learning I can keep my legacy rewards.

It's worth noting to any Public Mobile corporate staff that may be reading this:   Switching plans was not my preferred solution.  I wanted to keep my old plan but buy a Canada text message booster to hold me over until next billing cycle.  Because you do not offer this I am now forced to pay more every single month from now on, just so I can get more text messages for this one week.  I'm not pleased with this.

To everyone in the community who helped. Thanks-again!

This is all still valid:

Scroll down to changing your plan. Under Changing your plan on the next plan renewal date. The last point.

You will keep your old rewards, bonuses, etc when you switch plans. What you will not keep is promo bonus related to particular plan promo (2GB for $25 for 6 months, etc.)

This was the ONLY plan affected. Ever. All plans have always become less cost by way of adding more features. They didn't do that here. If they had maybe made it into a 100 minute 100 text plan I would have been mostly fine with that. We see all these plans come and go with more data for less cost. Or the cost per gig is reduced. Or the same price but more data. Not this one.

For your interest, if you were to change to the $15 plan, any data you have or might buy will then be at so-called 3G speed. Right now this plan gets 4G speed.

No I didn't like it, but to be honest I've never experienced a telecommunications provider that doesn't increase rates with no consumer recourse.

Did you like that this was the ONLY plan that has ever been force-changed up? That they basically stole back your 3 years of loyalty making loyalty now in effect just a 2 year benefit? That they violated their own terms of contract with us doing it? That they couldn't be bothered to spice it a little to justify the forced increased price like they do with ALL other plans having the effect of lowering their prices.

Thanks for the info I didn't realize I can switch plans but stay on the old reward system.

You can also use MMS. They don't have to be a picture. They're unlimited. You just need to turn on data. The recipient will too. But it's a workaround until your next renewal. I also like the voip app that does both talk and text for this plan. I have two of the $13 plans.

A text add-on has always been a wish list item. Or they could have increased the talk and text limits for their greedy forced plan change.

@Hixbot  there is no addon for Canadian text.

Your only option is to use some VoIP app like Fongo or TextNow.  Once installed, you will pick another 10 digits number.  You can then text and call using the apps.  Of course, you will have to tell your friends that you have another number and expect them to receive the text from your new VoIP number so they won't think it is a junk text

@Hixbot , unfortunately there is no text add-on.  Given the price increase on the $10 plan to $13, it might be worthwhile to consider upgrading to the $15 plan which will provide unlimited text and some data.  There is no impact on reward for plan changes.  Switching from the old reward system to the new points system is choice you can make separate from plan changes.  I would recommend against changing to the points system because you are better off with the old system if your loyalty exceeds 2 years.
