New US plan

I am considering changing my current plan to the new US PLAN using 5G technology.
I have been told my iPhone 6S will not work with the 5G network. Is this correct?

@will13am Great point! The iPhone 6S is not VoLTE compatible on PM's network.

@Rick27 to validate this you can do a test at home. First, ensure you're connected to the 4G/LTE network. Then temporarily turn wifi off. Then try to make a phone call. Once the call is connected watch the top of your screen to see what network you're connected to.

I would expect you'll drop down to 3G because your phone is not capable of making a phone call on the LTE/4G network with PM. Unfortunately this means you will have issues trying to complete phone calls in the US. Reason being is that the US shut down their 3G network. The only possible workaround would be to try and connect to a 2G network (if available) to make phone calls. Data and SMS are not impacted by this issue.

It might be time to consider a newer phone.

Please note that 5G are available on iPhone 12 or newer so it won’t work on your old iPhone 6S.

Great thanks very much!

@Rick27 , before jumping on the CAN/US plan check that your phone will work with VoLTE.  This is way more important that 5G.  The US no longer have a 3G network which is instrumental for calling if your phone cannot establish VoLTE access.  The T-Mobile 2G network which is the fallback is rather iffy for calls.  Use these two checks to make sure that VoLTE is working for you.

@Rick27 your phone will still work. Even it does not support 5G, you can still access the 4G/LTE network in Canada and US
