@jenni-aY8621440 You said you just set up and activated a new account. Are you porting in your number from another carrier? If you are then you also needed to authorize the port request that would have been sent from your previous provider by replying YES. I believe you get 90 mins to respond from receiving the transfer request. Also your other account needs to be active until the porting is complete.
You can ask your previous carrier to send another transfer text. Keep your old SIM in your phone until you've responded YES after which you can insert your PM SIM and reboot your phone and see if you can get service.
If none of the suggestions so far are helping then check your Community inbox (top right) for the Telus porting number.

@jenni-aY8621440 PM support is all online
you can open a ticket with PM but in the mean time, maybe we can try to help
First, How long you have activated the line? was number porting involved?
can you make outgoing calls?
can you receive incoming calls?
is data work?
Text does not work at all for BOTH incoming and outgoing? did you try to send text to your friend and ask your friend to send one to you?
Please note if it is banking text, it might take couple days if porting was involved. this is normal for security reason
