I notice the rules say to submit a "handwritten" essay, and the works handwritten are in bold. Does this mean it can be typed? Or must it be in actual handwriting (and is printing ok)?

Yeah, they can't require a purchase to enter a contest in Canada. Probably because it would be considered gambling otherwise. So as I said, Public Mobile is complying with the law while making it inconvenient to enter without purchase. If you're making the purchase this doesn't apply.

That's just if you want to enter without purchase (i.e. without signing up for the Mexico plans). They can't legally make you purchase something to get an entry, but they're trying to make it difficult to enter without making a purchase.

handwritten means write by hand. Type or pint is not handwritten. I think that is to avoid people copy online or use AI to help

@MichelleR1 Im assuming they want handwritten to avoid the use of bots/chatgpt , interference/assistance.
Terms are below as outlined on the web here:
No Purchase Necessary: To enter and be eligible for the prize without purchase, entrants must write a “handwritten” essay at a minimum of 500 words / maximum 600 words letting us know why you would like to go on a trip to Mexico. Essay entries must be hand written legibly on a piece of paper and contain the following information: (i) name of the contest: PUBLIC MOBILE MEXICO TRIP CONTEST, (ii) your name, (iii) your complete address, (iv) daytime phone number, and (v) your email address. Mail your entry to: ATTN: TELUS PUBLIC MOBILE CONTEST FLOOR 28, 25 York Street, Toronto ON, M5J 2V5. Mailed-in entries must be received on or before the end of business day on April 18, 2025 to account for mailing delivery times. No other form of participation is accepted. Public Mobile is not responsible for lost, late, illegible, incomplete, misdirected or postage due mail entries and will only accept one mailed-in entry form per person /stamped envelope throughout the contest period. Only one entry per person.
To be eligible, you must be a Canadian resident 18 years of age or older. Contest not open to employees of TELUS Corporation or any of its affiliated companies or subsidiaries, its sales agents, its advertising and promotional agencies, and members with whom they are domiciled.
By accepting these Contest Rules, entrants agree that any and all liability related to this contest by Public Mobile is limited to the value of the Prize(s) as defined hereinafter.
