LTE speed

I have 4G plan.  Speedtest shows download speed less then 1Mbps.  Upload is much slower.

How do I get Public Mobile to fix this?

I think the fact that you don't see it as an available option suggests the updates didn't include it. This is an irritating thing with these manufacturers in cahoots with the carriers to mess with the customers. So see if that app does the trick.

@Lens20   for the 5G not showing up , not sure if this help, but it might need a Google Dialer app.  Or you can use the netmonitor method:

Ref:https://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/Get-Support/Troubles-connecting-to-5G-network/m-p/100...

I did it using *#*#4636#*#* > Phone Information > Network Type (you'll need to install the Google Dialer app and set it as default for this to work on a OnePlus device, don't press the call button after typing it).

Just a tip - if you prefer using an app, you could use Net Monster as it does not have annoying ads like 5G Switch. Only caveat is that it sends annoying notifications and 'requires' the notification permission but you can disable these notifications from the app's own settings.

I'm not sure if 5G has reached our area yet.  I don't know anyone using it.

@Lens20   do you know if there is 5G coverage there?  anyone using Telus/Bell  able to connect to the 5G network?

Tried LTE in another location.  Speed is excellent.  Obviously the coverage in my my area is very marginal.  The LTE/4G signal is too weak to handle any reasonable data traffic.  I'm still not sure why 5G doesn't appear as an option on my phone.  Anyway, I don't really need 5G at this time.

Then that's odd that you have the recent updates but 5G doesn't show. That's what happened with one of my phones. It showed up after that update (along with volte).

Model is SM-G781W.  Product name is Galaxy S20 FE 5G.

I tried the *#0011# again.  I guess I missed the asterisk last time!  Sorry.  It works, but I think you already have enough information on the connection quality.  Thanks for your help.  I'll let you know when I get results from a different location.

Yes, I believe this is a poor coverage area.  The cell tower is 3.8 km away.  I'll try it again when I'm in a different area.

Are you able to find the exact model name? Like SM-????

B12 with that kind of signal is going to have very low speeds, that's normal. You're just in a bad coverage area. I wouldn't be surprised if your SINR is close to zero.

That's right, the 4636 code only works with Google dialer.

Lens20

Band number at the moment is 12.

Signal strength is poor:  -122 to -114 dbm

RSRQ is -14 db

Don't know the SINR

The code worked for my Samsung but the other 4636 one does not. Go figure. @Lens20 - Is it possible you reversed the first two symbols? Also, what exact model name is your S20?

Odd, that code always works on Samsung phones. Anyway I was trying to see your RSRP and SINR values, as well as the band number. If you can get that info we can get a better sense of your situation.

Yes, default Samsung phone app.

Are you entering the code with the default Samsung dialer app? It won't work with the Google dialer or other 3rd party ones.

Response is: "Connection problem or invalid MMI code."

My phone is using Android 13 One UI 5.1

Options for network modes are:

LTE/WCDMA/GSM

WCDMA/GSM

WCDMA only

GSM only

@Lens20 can you dial *#0011# and post a screenshot of your stats when connected to LTE?

What is the OS version? My phone has all of its updates too but it stops at 12. It won't be getting 13. The other device did get to 13. The 5G option showed up before 5G was known to be present.

@Lens20

you can check PM 5G coverage map here

https://www.publicmobile.ca/en/on/coverage

and did you try using Reset All networks to see if it helps to get back a more resonable LTE speed?

I have all OS updates.  We may not have 5G available in my rural area yet.

@softech- What are you right about? I thought we were all here helping everybody all respectfully and all. My phone is different from what you said. So...not most Samsungs. Oh I can edit too. I was merely adding a data point confirming that it was not all.

@Lens20- Have you made sure the phone has all OS updates? I "manage" a phone that was 5G from the start but it wasn't showing. Then an update happened and out came 5G. That plan is the $15 3G speed plan. It connects to 5G fine. But if you don't see any 5G option then you have a different OS. That update also brought volte.

@Lens20

No, you can access 5G network even you are on 4G or 3G plan.  The 4G/3G plan are just 4G speed/3G speed plan, you can access other network no problem, just the speed will be capped accordingly

Yes, Samsung S20.  No specific 5G setting, but the phone is 5G capable.  I assume that I would need a 5G plan with Public Mobile in order to access the 5G network.

It's not all Samsungs. If I set to LTE etc then I get 4G and even 4G+. When I set to 3G only I get H+. If I set to 2G only I get nuttin.

Another Samsung does get 4G on WCDMA Only. LTE+ on LTE etc. 5G on 5G etc.

@Lens20   you have a Samsung ?    4G is 3G for most Samsung devices 🙂

you have 5G option? try that..

Lens20
Good Citizen / Bon Citoyen

Won't connect to other networks.  Turned off LTE.  Connected to 3G.

Interesting -- Speed increased to 4 Mbps download.  My phone status shows 4G instead of LTE.  However, I'm sure that I'm on a 3G network now.

@Lens20

in the meantime, check your Preferred network type.  Change it to different one and test it out.  Instead of Automatic,   Start with 4G, then try 3G Only  and see if any of those settings give you better speed
