I have aquired this phone recently, samsung galacy s205g, thinking I will be enjoying 5g speed. I could not get any 5g internet speed mobile network. all i was able to get was LTE. I checked the settings of the network and I did not see any 5g option in it.
this is the exact same settings I was getting on my old S10 plus.
I did a quick search on this issue on the PM community. it seems that Iam not the only one. I saw many PM customers frustrated by PM forcing these devices not to use 5g by using software updates that disable 5g. BTW these same PM customers were using the same devices with other carriers and getting 5g but once they move to PM the lost the 5g capability.
this is really frustrating. I am paying for a plan that I can not use. I this I will look for another carrier that allow me to experience my device capability in full and without impedance.

@Steelydawn Unless you have a Can/US or Can/US/Mex plan, in which case you can roam in the US without any additional add-on's.

Look in the add-ons section, there are extra fees for traveling while in the US.

@Steelydawn All plans can connect to all networks (3G/4G/5G) with a compatible device. The plan simply dictates max speed (via throttling) on any of the above noted networks. E.g. a 3G plan can still connect to the 4G and 5G networks, however the max speed will be capped at 3Mbps. The same way a 4G plan can connect to the 5G network, but with a throttled speed cap of 100Mbps.

I think it depends on what services you are paying for. I am on the cheap plan so I don't get 5G but the more expensive plans include the 5G . I hope this gets resolved for you soon.

The version of the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G that has been sold in Canada is incapable of connecting to 5G networks if you're using a Public Mobile SIM card. This is blocked at the device software level (but as from eralier: a 5G network is required to get full speeds on a Public Mobile 5G plan).

In all honesty, the 5G network is overrated anyway. The signal doesn't penetrate obstacles as well as 4G does, so I actually just leave my phone in 4G anyway. Also note that you can still obtain 5G speeds on the 4G network if you have a 5G plan.
As for the US, text and data will work if you have a Canada/US plan (or a roaming add-on), but your phone won't work for phone calls because it's not on the VoLTE whitelist.
