Is Public Points worth it?

Hello!

I dont use 'referals' or 'community' so is there any point to switching to points? I like getting money off every month automatically. Does this point system do that? If I am just using the most basic plan, am i going to get more money back then with just keeping this old way?

Thanks for your answers!

Hi

To change to points is not up to us , starting May 2024 ,they switched us automatically.

I didn't want to switch because I had $ 8 off of my monthly payment,but I haven't any choisses.

@hairbag1

I am sure PM will come with a scheme to charge 'exchange fee' when we exchange 15 points.

As maurice3 pointed out is very logical: you get 5% of your bill whatever your bill is. If you are on $15 plan and finally after a year or so get your 15 points and pay the bill - it will be $0 so you cannot expect to get 5% of $15 as you did not pay $15 but $0.

@Meow

here's something else to think about as "pointed" out by @maurice3 earlier today....

All of what Handy1 said is true.  In addition to that, is the seldom mentioned fact about the 5% reward part. Namely that the 5% applies only to the amount you pay for the service, not what the advertised 30 day billing amount is.

For example if you have one of the $34 plans you will get  $34 x .05% = 1.7 points a month.  Once you finally, (like months later),  accumulate the 15 points and redeem them against your bill,  you will be happy that it will lower the next bill to $19.

You will less happy however when you discover that for the following month you will only earn  $19 x .05% = 0.95 points. This happens every time you redeem the 15 points. Every point now really counts, so this little move reduces your annual reward value even more from the old one.

As if what they did with the rewards plan wasn't bad enough,  they then proceeded to tweak it to make it even worse! Nice....

Wow everyone thanks for the ultra quick responses!

And !#*&$!# bleepers this all sounds sad and depressing. I am going to miss my automatic discounts. Thats why I chose this company. Its been a blessing.

I am very basic and my friends already are settled in with their own services. So this sounds like Im going to lose out. shucks.

I guess they decided they need more money for themselves 😞

ok thanks everyone!

No.

Depends. If you're happy with the plan price, then yes. But don't count on any discounts. Likely you'll be able to log in once a year to redeem some points. Must have at least 15.

But you may we'll see other cell providers with similar plans, but rewards systems that suit your needs better.

You have NO option.

Everybody is switched to points. If you do not have referrals then only 'discount' in points will be 10 points at anniversary and 5% of your plan cost in points.
When you accumulate 15 points you can manually convert them to $ and apply to your bill.
When you accumulate 5 point you can purchase some 5-points add-ons.

There is NO 'automatic' bill reduction every 30 days.

So if you are on basic plan ($15) you will get 0.75 points. Calculate how long it will take you to collect 15 points...😱
Include 10 points on anniversary...

You have to switch, the legacy rewards is being retired. You will get 5 welcome points, 10pts on your anniversary date and 5% of your plan total. When you accumulated 15pts you can redeem them $15 off your next bill

@pheephee148  It’s better then nothing , but not nearly as good as the old $ rewards . It will cost the most loyal customer on average $50 + a year
