Is it worth it to switch to this Public Mobile? I’m with Sasktel right now and I’m paying the arm and the leg for 30 gigs. I don’t go to the states often, but I do have a cruise coming up in January. I’m just curious if it’s worth the switch

Might as well spend 6 bucks more then have to upgrade. Like I said I spend 100 now. For less.

@Blammo That’s a good plan too , but remember public mobile has made it harder to downgrade plan price . It’s easy to always upgrade plan price . So I would start with plan the meets your needs with lowest price possible

seems more than enough even if I hotspot my youngest on road trips

hi @Blammo
I think the $30 20GB Canada US plan is the great buy. . It is good as a regular plan already and perfect that it includes US roaming for your upcoming trip

@Blammo I would suggest the 20GB for $30 CAN/US plan decent amount of data and great price and has roaming built into it . So you can call and use in either country talk text and data . But with Black Friday coming up could wait and see if there turns out to be even better new activation only plan around that time and join just like two weeks away
and yes you can use eSIM but myself personally I prefer physical sim easier to switch device on the fly with out the hassle of having to rebuy eSIM even though you get credit back for eSIM . Less to go wrong with physical sim in my opinion

Ok so what plan would you recommend and how does calling work. I have a 30g now and only went over once. But I call my kids in Alberta and my brother in Saskatoon sometimes while I’m on the road for work. My Sasktel bill has been $95 for the last 4yrs. I believe my iPhone 12 is eSIM capable. Or would it be better to get a physical one? This is so very new to me I’m not that techy.

@Handy1 in Saskatchewan, Telus and Bell use Sasktel towers. It's the same coverage as native Sasktel service.

Public mobile does have a few disadvantages:
No Wifi calling, no call control, No live customer service support (no phone number or live chat feature) No international country roaming (except for USA)
Advantages:
Cheaper plans, No contract. No credit check. Uses Telus/Bell Network. Rewards system does offer some discount.
Public mobile is a self serve, DIY no frills, low cost type of mobile carrier.

@Blammo Great so number can be transferred , service is good it uses Telus / bell towers so you should have smooth sailing as far as reception /signal to use talk text and data I’ve been with Public mobile since 2018 and still here and won’t be going anywheres anytime soon

My number was able to switch over

what about service? Sasktel is very good with being able to talk to someone. I’ve been looking at bell as well. I do like the 40 dollar plan and able to have data in the states. I don’t travel much. It just seems so convenient to have data in North America.

@Blammo Of course it is . PM has budget friendly plans and you can earn points just for paying your bill and being a customer and lower your bill . There’s many ways to earn points by helping in community and getting friend refferals . It’s possible to get your bill to $zero . But first things first and make sure your number can be ported to public mobile if it can’t be ported you would need to pick new number with public if you want in on the action .
Check to see if # can be ported

if it can be ported get yourself SIM card from Telus /koodo store or order from Amazon $4.99 there right now . Also if your phone is eSIM compatible you can join right away using the PM app to activate . Note after making payment on App step 6 you will get option to pick new number or transfer number from old provider . Leaving the old providers sim in the phone and account active to reply YES to the confirmation text to port . Also don’t forget to ask a friend with public mobile for a refferal code to save yourself one time $10 credit .That’s it and start saving money today with public mobile 🙂
