If I buy a SIM at a Telus store for new activation, will I get reinbursed?

If I buy a SIM at a Telus store for new activation, will I get reimbursed?

Otherwise, if I order it and it arrives after the promo has expired (March 4) will the Promo rate still be good? And again will PM credit me for the $10 SIM I purchased at the Telus store?

Thank you.

@Phil_Adelphus Yeah I wouldn't be surprised if both carriers lists mattered. I think (?) in general PM's list is a lot smaller though, so id expect PM would be the issue moreso than the US roaming partner. But yeah, it's possible it's both.

@DennyCrane  That's a good question.  But hypothetically, I guess the question is if the US partner doesn't support VoLTE on a particular phone would it even matter if PM does support VoLTE on it?  Wouldn't it be dependent on the technical capabilities of the US partner while roaming at that point?

@CatalystOne  The $34 for 50GB Can/US plan is a great deal even if you don't use the US component.  I would have switched to it except I already went for the $102 for 150GB unlimited 90 day plan which works out to the same cost per 30 days and don't have any reason to visit the US anyway.

Thanks for the info. I humbly I know nothing about voLTE. Xiaomi is a fine brand that rivals Samsung in India, China, Europe, and Latin America including Mexico. Strangely it is not represented in Can/US, which may explain why its probably not on any Can/US supported phone list. I don't visit the US much, maybe 2-4 times a year for a few days, so its not really important unless I had an emergency. If I can't make voice calls, I could use TextNow over Data as I do have a US number with them, but rarely use it.

@Phil_Adelphus Correct me if you know something different, but as far as I'm aware it's Public Mobile's VoLTE compatible list that matters, not the roaming partner. Possibly both, but I believe PM would be the roadblock either way.

@CatalystOne   There are no Xiaomi phones on AT&T's VoLTE compatible list.  A quick Google suggests the phone may not get VoLTE on T-Mobile but could work otherwise whereas it might not on AT&T. So if you're thinking of using the phone in the US you might want to do a bit of research on that if voice calls are important while there.  The only PM roaming options in the States are AT&T and T-Mobile.

@CatalystOne Data and text will be fine, but you probably won't be able to make or receive calls while in the US. Without VoLTE you'd need a 3G network to make calls on, which the US no longer has.

Interesting! My phone is a Xiaomi Mi Max 2. In settings under voLTE it says "voLTE calls aren't supported for the mobile data SIM card". I'm currently on Telus.

So when in US, I presume it would be on ATT or T-Mobile. I was not aware about the voLTE requirement. Would DATA still work in US?

@CatalystOne   You're looking at the Canada-US plan, do you plan on visiting the USA or just calling there?  Just wondering, since you said your phone takes a micro-sim, which sounds like the phone might be older since most now have nano-sim.  Therefore I'm wondering if the phone is VoLTE capable/enabled because if it isn't then it won't work for voice calls while roaming in the USA.

Thanks for your continued support! My device isn't e-sim capable, only micro-sim. Looks like I managed to get a message into CS, lets see if they respond. Thanks again. If no clear response from them, I may just go to a nearby Telus store and buy the $10 sim.

I don't might waiting a few weeks for the SIM if they send it free, but I'm not sure if they would honour the Prom Plan after it expires on Monday March 1?

I'm guessing they are getting good response to the promo.

@CatalystOne I wouldn't recommend ordering it from PM, as it takes weeks to arrive, and sometimes it doesn't arrive at all. Maybe just activate with an e-sim first? Assuming your device is esim capable.

Thanks! I understand and had already tried that 3 times. I tried a 4th time and when I pressed Send, the screen kicked me back somewhere.

I'm just trying to get all my understanding in order before I port in and aI'm already frustrated with having to sign-in over and over just to post messages and the technical hassles of this website. But thanks to you again for responding.

I may just place an order, and try to contact service when the SIM arrives, If I can't I will just drop the whole idea.

@CatalystOne  With the invalid html thing, cut your text and paste it into a note app, then copy and paste it from there back into the text box for the private message.  Sometimes just cutting it and pasting it right back in works also.  It should send after that.  If there is anything copied and pasted from another website then remove it (type it in manually if necessary).

Thanks! That wont work as I don't have Amazon Prime and the promo ends in 3 days on Monday March 4 (unless it gets extended).

Thankks!

When I try to PM the service agents, my message won't post; I get "Your post has been changed because invalid HTML was found in the message body. The invalid HTML has been removed. Please review the message and submit the message when you are satisfied."

YMMV, and ordering from PM online can take weeks to arrive. Save yourself the headache and just cough up the $5 to order it from Amazon.

@CatalystOne
In general, you will not be reimbursed for SIM cards purchased in store.

You can order a Sim card from Public mobile website for free and activate and pay for your plan choice immediately.  The SIM card will be delivered within 10 business days.  Once you get the SIM card, you can finish off the activation and your plan will then start.

Unless there was an issues with the shipping of the SIM card, Public mobile CSA will not normally reimburse for SIM cards purchased in store.  The friend referral code credit of $10 was suppose to cover the cost of the physical SIM card anyways.

@CatalystOne

Be certain and get it in writing, ask the customer support agents

I'm leaning toward them agreeing to refund the cost, but we're just other customers like you so we can't guarantee that.

@CatalystOne : It seems that the service agent might reimburse the amount as per this thread; https://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/Get-Support/SIM-card-reimbursement/m-p/1098678#M76778...

Please private message them by going to, https://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/notes/composepage/note-to-user-id/22437 and explain your situation.
