I was charged for some BS by a koodo rep??

so a couple days ago I was at a koodo booth looking for new plans (I had not heard of public mobile) and the rep told me of a great new prepaid plan, (it was actually a  public mobile plan but he did not tell me that). I said I liked it and he told me there was to be a $30 activation fee. I found that strange and asked him why there was an activation fee if I'm just switching plans and he just mumbled something. I was like whatever and paid the $30 as well as the $25 30 days prepaid. Only after everything was done did he tell me "have you heard of public mobile?" and he explained that I just switched to PM. I went home and looked at the receipt and noticed that the $30 was not for activation but rather $15 for sim card, and $15 for a VIP coupon. wtf??? he sold me a coupon card for $15 and told me it was activation fee this was fishy AF and why was a koodo rep selling public mobile plans?

@dacSounds like the kiosk is probably an independent shop. I am not sure PM could do much either. Perhaps file a BBB complaint? or go back and say you want a refund as that's also your rights.

Telus has nothing to do with it

You would either call Koodo (if you wished to undo the port and get old plan back) or send an email to Public Moderators

 

If you wanted to file a formal complaint through the parent company (Telus) they would need you to contact the sub brand first

Telus owns the joint. Public Mobile doesn't answer phone calls. Maybe Koodo. Do you have to pay for help there?

@dac , my suggestion is to call Telus and explain the situation.  That franchisee and the the specific employee need a good spanking.  Forget about going through the moderator team.  Getting credited back is not enough.  This situation is serious and needs to be addressed properly.

If there are rules about charging fees set by Telus for them being authorized, they have to follow the rules.  If there is no rule, they can charge what they want.  Shouldn't have agreed to the price.

@dac  Dial 611 from your phone. Do you have an account balance? Maybe as others have mentioned the charge was $10 sim card + $15 voucher plus tax.

That advice could lead to cancellation and loss of the phone number (assuming he ported his Koodo # over). I like Alex888's idea of going back to the store and having it out with the boss (more assuming that the guy you had is not the boss).

Did you pay via a credit card at the booth?  If so, you have some recourse thanks to protection of your bank and the processing network used (Visa, MasterCard, AMEX, etc).

 

If so, you should contact your bank and explain that you would like to dispute this transaction and that the reason is “not as described”.  They should be able to help you, it’s your right to file a dispute.

@dac, Thank you for bringing this to Public Mobile's attention. The handling was very questionable indeed.

I seem to recall back in the day retailers used to charge an "activation" fee.

I would totally object to being forcefully moved over to another provider without my knowing.

No idea what this VIP coupon is either. Do you see 12 digits somewhere on it? Maybe he sold you a voucher? Maybe he put it on your account?

It's a thoroughly fishy slimy thing the guy did for you.

Sounds like a dealer store (authorized to sell Koodo, not actually Koodo)

 

Does your receipt show any other name on it?

Sorry to hear about your troubles.  

 

Some authorized Koodo dealers also sell PM plans.  I do not believe that they are corporate stores though.  The SIM card should be $10 usually, not sure about the VIP coupon deal though.....  

 

I would sent a message to moderator to explain your situation and complain about that particular store.  Moderators might be able to help you out.

@dac Koodo and Public Mobile are both part of Telus. You should go back to the store and speak with a supervisor or manager.
