How to port number to new phone

Freimark

I am a current Public Mobile Customer.  I am upgrading from an Iphone 8 to 12.  Do I need a new SIM card or can I just pop the same one in the new phone?  I read a new card could be beneficial for updated technologies.

If I need a new card, my work gave me a new Telus SIM card, can I port to that, or does it need to be a new ordered Public Moblie card?  How do I port from one card to the other?

iPhone 8 and iPhone 12 both use nano sim card. So, you should be able to use the same sim in your iphone 12 as your old iPhone 8.

Some SIM cards do contain extra features beyond standard required specifications. Extra flash storage capacity, active cryptocircuitry, NFC/RFID tagging, tamperproofing, extra interface pins for special devices, etc.

The vast majority of consumer SIM cards are cheap stuff, built with lowest-cost flash chips which can sustain reliable performance. They probably spend more money printing their branding and on "secure" shipping/logistics than on the actual hardware.

The few SIM cards which do contain any extra features or functions are typically paired with specific premium phone models, plans, and services. Telus offers NFC-capable SIM cards on certain promos, for example.

The only fancy feature built into Public Mobile SIM cards is the "triple-punch" plastic spacers which allow them to be resized.

Thanks.  I did that and the new phone is working.

Thanks so much

You can use the same SIM in different phones. No porting needed if you are only changing hardware and continue to be PM's customer.

If you want to use new - Telus SIM and port your PM number then you will NOT be PM's customer anymore, your PM account will be closed, rewards, loyalty lost and you will become Telus customer. You can port your PM number to Telus if your company allows you to do that.

@Freimark

Just pop your PM Sim card in your new phone.

Telus SIM card will not work with PM.
