How does the Canada US data work?

StaceyMC

Hi there! I'm thinking to switch to Public Mobile. How does the $34 Canada US 50GB plan work? I'm currently paying a $12 Roam Like Home fee with Rogers every time I cross the border.  Wondering if everything is now included under my plan now?Are data, phone calls and texting from the US included or should I expect to see additional charges? Do I have to change any settings on my phone?

Also, wondering if there have been any issues with network coverage in the Greater Vancouver and Whistler areas in BC.

Any clarification on how this works would be greatly appreciated!

Just signed up today. In California.  Was wonky but I finally set to LTE and ATT and it is solid.  180'ish down and 40'ish up for data.

Looks like I won't be playing with my Tmobile sims any more.  Just keep this plan.

I have a 90 day plan so will wait to implement on my main phone but tried it on a spare monthly plan I have kept on physical sim card.  Working well.

PM is as pay you go plan , so no extra charge on top , only when you are out of US and Canada, your phone won’t work any more , data was great in Canada, but never try in US. Any way Unlimited US and Canada with 50 gib G 5, you could not find anywhere for that price . If you don’t happy , you could easy stop subscription.  the plant will stay with you, event they change it in the future .

Thanks for the great info! I'm also worried that since it's a subscription service, the terms may change at any time.  Have any of you experienced having your "plan" deleted or changed? This is an amazing deal, but don't want a "bait and switch" where I sign on now and have this offer no longer available in a couple months, then be forced to pay double or lose services...

No bait n switch here. If you select this plan, it'll be your regular, 30 day plan for the foreseeable future. PM does reserve the right to change the terms of any plan...but they'll give 30 days notice first.

To confirm if you have volte enabled by PM...turn OFF your local wifi. Dial a local number. Does the phone stay on LTE or does it drop to 3G. If it stays on LTE...you're good to go.

Best plan I ever never see before, it’s good so far . As pay you go , the same  money you pay monthly, no roaming in US . It work only in Canada and US.

Honestly ive had lines for years and never had that happen i do know back i think 2016 they tried something and and a bunch of backlash and have no upped the plans or deleted them so i think you are good.

Public mobile is a good discounted service.

I have a Google Pixel 7. I see that there is a VoLTE slider option to turn it on in my Settings under Network. Is that the same thing?

Yes so i personally have a line with rogers(for work) and multiple on public mobile. So yes with public mobile your 50gb data calling and texting is for all of canada and the USA NO fees anymore. Its like roam like home with rogers but included in your plan. Its a win win plan. Even if you only go to the usa here and there its still a great plan to have.

@StaceyMC

just to add to your info....before going to US, make sure to have a cellphone with VOLTE enabled by PM. As the US has shut down their 3G, you'll only be able to call using their 2G network and T-Mobile only. A volte enabled phone will work like a charm but w/o it...well..."no bueno" if you know what I mean.

US/Can plan is just that - all services - SMS/MMS/calls in/out will work in both countries. No need for US add-on.
NO additional charges. Everything is included in 30 days subscription fee. No settings modification on your phone.
I would suggest physical SIM instead of eSIM as physical SIM you can switch from phone to phone (with NO change in service) while eSIM is 'burned' into your phone nd if it fails or you change phone you have to buy a new one.

As for data - you have a bucket for 30 days; after you use it you cannot do Internet anymore (unless plan is 'unlimited' with lower speed) and have to wait until next renewal when you get another-same bucket of data.

Hey @StaceyMC

Very simple actually. You get a 50GB data bucket. Once the data is gone, no more data for the cycle. You can use your 50GB here in Canada or while in the US. No extra fees. No more ROAM LIKE HOME from Rogers. Stop paying their horrible fees. Come join the plan that saves you money!!

EDIT: One side note that I should mention, this plan only works in Canada and the US. Public Mobile does not work in any other country.

@StaceyMC  It’s true snow bird plan , you can call to and from each country from either country using talk text and data and no additional charges
