Help with transferring wife's account from Koodo when account is in my name

Hello,

I have already asked customer support this question but they have not got back to me, probably its being treated as non-urgent, which I can understand. Anyway, here is my situation:

I am already with PM

My Wife is with Koodo, but her account is in my name, the email address is also my email address and it is billed to my credit card. It was set up this way when I set up an account for my son a long time ago and my wife was added as an extra line (I think there was probably a family discount by doing it that way).

My wife wants to switch to PM but I'm wondering if we are going to hit issues with subscribing and transferring her koodo number when she's trying to sign up with her name/email address and the number being moved is in my name.

Has anyone had experience of this, do you know if we are likely to hit issues?

computergeek541, thanks for your reply, I wondering if should keep waiting or if something was wrong with the activation. Thanks also for clarifying the situation, re: temporary number

Raluca at CA_Agent has been in touch just now so hopefully it can get sorted out

My wife has been through all the steps, she submitted the request to move her number from Koodo. She received the text from Koodo, asking her to confirm which she did (replied 'Yes').

She has received an email from Koodo to say 'Sorry to see you go' and has received the 'Welcome to Public' email. She has switched the SIM cards so she now has the PM sim installed, she power cycled her phone.

Now she is waiting to connect to the PM network (currently when she does a search for networks and selects Public Mobile, it says 'Unable to connect. Try later'). I guess it takes time so we have to be patient.

At some point during the sign up process it said she would still be able to do data and there would be a temporary number, so I don't know what that's about.

When a new customer requests number porting during activation, there is no temporary number.  Even if the number transfer was requested at a later time, any temporary number would be gone as soon as number porting was requested.  Essentially, this means that there is no such thing as a temporary phone number (when it comes to number porting at Public Mobile).  As to not being able to connect to Public Mobile, that indicates a problem with the activation.  Some aspects of the Public Mobile service should have started working immediately.

Handy1, thanks for explaining the steps. I must confess when I joined PM a while back I made the mistake of removing the Freedom SIM and then wondered why I didn't receive the confirmation texts

yes, I saw that in your reply. Thanks for clarify that point.

Hopefully the subscribing will be straightforward now

@bbear1  You don’t need to change your name in Koodo . When you join PM you use her name to create account . Only worry about using your name when it comes to transferring the number to PM by proving Koodo account number and the name it’s in ( yours) and don’t use the IMEI when it’s asks for it . It’s not needed and you will be fine . And do remember to leave Koodo SIM card in the phone to reply YES to the confirmation text to port the number to PM . After you do that pop in the PM SIM card and reboot the phone . If you run into any issues come back here and we can further help assist you .

that's great to know, thank you

thank you Handy1 for your help.

I was able to use Koodo self-serve to change the email address and credit card details for her phone. The only thing which I don't seem to be able to change in Koodo self-serve is that name (still my name). Still, hopefully she will be able to subscribe to PM now.

I got the referral code sent to me as an email, and will remember to use it, thank you

Please see my previous message. The name on the Koodo account doesn't need to be changed.

There's no retrictions to transferring something in your name to an account in her name at Public Mobile.  On the number transfer form, it will ask for the name of the account holder at Koodo, but the the account at Public Mobile can be in anyone's name.

@bbear1  You need to use a different email for wife’s account . Each phone line account needs it own email and don’t forget to use your referral code for her line
