Data Coverage in Mexico

Hi everyone, just wanted to see if anyone has had a chance to try out the new data coverage in Mexico recently - I know it’s routed back to Telus but just wanted to confirm. Thinking of upgrading my plan to the $35 CAN US MEX deal for Black Friday but I don’t need this much data… is the data quality good in Mexico as well? Thanks.

@Humpty41 You're still roaming, even though it's included in your rate plan. So yes, you need to enable data roaming.

did you have to enable roaming or did it work with just data enabled?

@Carinaaaaw That's common. You may find your phone switching providers throughout your stay as well.

I just arrived at Mexico Cancun today and turned on the data roaming, the network provider is AT&T while my friend who has the same plan automatically connected to Moviestar (not aure why it's different with mine) the data is working really great so far!!

Replying to myself for visibility - as I am now in Mexico/ Cancun, can confirm it’s with AT&T and works very well along the strip and inside the hotel room where wifi is spotty because it’s far away from the lobby (most of these hotels are structured like this). However, I do see only 1-2 bars of signal at the airport initially and assuming that’s the case in rural areas as well. Just make sure you’re in somewhat populated areas with roaming on and you will be very happy with so much data when everyone else seems to be struggling. Good plan solid coverage glad I upgraded. Both mobimatter and Airalo are much more expensive on a per GB scale.

Touche didn't even think of that, well this is beautiful then !!

There are never surprise charges with Public Mobile because it's a prepaid service. You still need to turn data roaming on if you're going to the US or Mex, as you are still roaming (even if there are no additional charges).

Anyone know if there would be roaming charges as this would need to be turned on for the data ?

I have a friend that is in Mexico right now and said the CAN/US/MEX plan has worked like a charm! She switched a couple days ago and said it works great!!

HI @JZ3

they just launch it 3 days ago, I am not sure if anyone already in Mexico testing the network yet

But like all roaming service, it really depends on the network in the destination.  I suggest to come back to the community and wait for people sharing the experience

Considering it will be on the AT&T network and the same set up as Telus, it should work great. They just launched this roaming service in Mexico so we didn't see much feedback as of yet. But you can browse Telus forums or reddit to see how things are.

Whether or not you need anywhere near 50GB, $35 is an absolute steal. Try not to think of it as a per GB cost.

@JZ3

those Cdn/US/Mx plans are so new we haven't had much feedback yet. Just be aware...once you get home, you won't be able to downgrade to a cheaper plan.
