Changing to 5G phone

JEN58

My current plan is for a 3G phone. I want to buy a 5G phone and switch to a 5G plan. Can I use the same sim card  or will I need a new one?

@JEN58

What 5G phone were thinking of getting?

Check to see if it is 5G compatible.

excellent - thank you

HI @JEN58

yup, Samsung S7 Edge is a bit old now, it can do neither 5G nor VoLTE.

But it has nano sim, so, you can use the same sim card on your new phone for sure

The SIM will be interchangeable between all phones but you might have to remove or add a spacer depending on what phone you are switching to. Most newer are nano size SIM.

Older phones use standard or micro size where you need to carefully remove the spacer without scratching the copper connectors.

@JEN58

can you share with us the make and model of your existing device?

Are you certain it’s incapable of anything other than 3G?

hi @JEN58

yes, the same sim card can be used for different plans and different phones

so, just pop your sim card out and insert into the new phone, and make plan chnage (best to use Change on Renewal when making plan change)

Nope. Your current SIM card will work just fine. You can use the same sim card or you can get an eSIM if you prefer. That way, if you get an iPhone 13 or 14 you can use dual SIM and have two numbers on your phone.
