Change of Cell Number

bwilms

All I wish to do is change my cell number. I currently am with Public Mobile and I am staying with Public Mobile. I just want to change my phone number. I tried to do it using the Change Number link, but it never works. What am I missing?

Cheers

@HALIMACS : I don't agree with this. I don't believe that activation, whether porting or new, counts as a number change. I believe the counter stays at zero. We can port after activation. One. Some have changed their number due to a bug with seeming to have picked someone else's number. One. I believe THEN the 30 day counter starts. The wording that I found is not entirely clear other than once every 30 days. But I don't think activation counts as one.

That may be the case, @Anonymous

I, personally, have not tried it because when helping to set-up services for us, it was always a port within the activation process - never selected new number on activation, then requested change to another new number within 30 days of activation.

It wouldn't surprise me if the '30-day' rule worked either way - if anyone has personal experience in doing what the OP wants done, weigh in.

Hi @bwilms

When you activated on February 20, did you choose a new number upon activation or port in a number you had been using at another supplier?

If you had a new number generated upon activation, then yes, that's considered a 'number change' so after March 22nd you'll be good to go. (remember, only 28 days in February)

If you ported a number on activation, you should be able to change the number.

Each number change is still limited to one per 30 days.

You don't need to change your number but you should probably change your profile username. Or eventually you might have to change your number. This can be done by contacting the moderators.

@bwilms Yes, you need more than 30 days to change your number...12 more days.

That's onlly true if the number was already changed. New customers don't need to wait 30 days to change a number.

Thank you! This really bothered me. I did a little bit of searching on that but couldn't find anything exact with the few search terms I was using. We can transfer/port a number inside of 30 days. That's basically using the Change Number function. Surely we can change the number in those first 30 days. Like those folks that somehow erroneously seem to get someone else's number. They change their number.

@bwilms :Also, if there is any urgent reason you have for changing your number before the 30 days such as harassing calls etc, you can try asking the Moderator Team to change it before the 30 days are up and they might be able to help you.

Thanks to all for your help.

Hi @bwilms yes you are correct.  30 days from Feb. 20, 2021 is March 22, 2021.  So you can change your number on March 23rd.

Welcome to Public Mobile

@bwilms : Yes I had that on one of my accounts last year. Another account worked fine. I guess you need to contact the moderators. _IF_ you haven't done a number change inside of 30 days.

@bwilms : Log out. Use a different browser or clear cache/site cookies or use incognito/private mode. Log in and make sure your number hasn't already been changed. You can only do this once per 30 days.

What exact message do you get when you try?
