Problem just started, I can send texts and make calls,  internet works , but cant receive texts or calls.   Calls just go straight to vm.

Have restarted, and taken the SIM card out but that doesnt fix the problem.

Great news @Thomas_13

could be a EST midnight reboot of some servers/equipment?

I guess you are happy to take it, as long as it starts working from here and no more hiccup

🙂

I checked my settings, I reset my settings, I did a factory reset, I powered on/off repeatedly while changing my network to all the ones in my list 3g, auto chose etc and while while removing/ replacing my Sim card. I put in a ticket and the response said everything looked good but they went ahead and reset my something or other.

None of it worked, still no incoming texts or calls.

A few hours ago and about 5 hours after Public reset something or other my phone suddenly blew up. All the texts showed up at once and it's worked fine all night.

I'll give this all one big shrug.

Odd thing is I tried changing the network type a couple times and didn't notice a difference. Through a series of reboots and changing it again to 3G I finally got texts and calls to come through. Extremely annoying issue.

@Thomas_13- Then carry on with the other suggested idea to switch the sim into another phone. Maybe try a different sim in your phone too. All to isolate where the problem is.

I tried this and tested with no luck.

@Thisismyname happy that it helps.

Yes, without a 2nd phone, you would have to open ticket with PM support and they can help to reprovision it for you.   Of course, it would take longer  🙂

Thanks for the help, switching my sim to another phone worked. Not sure what I would have done if I didn’t have access to someone else’s phone!

@Thisismyname  if someone in your household has Public but no issue, it might not be a local network issue then

So, you likely have more than one phone in your household. So, please try this, swap the sim cards between the phones and test.  By putting your sim card in another phone, it could force a provisioning with the system and it could clear things up.  It can also confirm if it is just a device issue. So, please try it

Yes, I only realized the issue recently because people reached out over email because they couldn’t reach my phone. Someone else in my household is also on Public but isn’t having any issues.

I’m having this same issue in Alberta. Started yesterday I think. I tried changing my iPhone to 3G only as suggested but still nothing. Data works and I can make outgoing calls/texts.

@Thisismyname   did you try your phone in different area of the town?

The wide outage should have been resolved, so, it could be just a local network issue

But don't wait, open ticket with PM support so they can check

I'm not in any area down as having problems, but people at my hotel mentioned there was some telus difficulties yesterday with friends.

@Thomas_13 - you affected by outages? Or, is there something else at play here?

Check for outages in your area:

@Thomas_13   yours still not working?

Reboot your phone once

Change the Preferred network to 3G Only , to 4G/3G and see if it works

@PublicNeil- Great testing. It's something that I've been trying to get looked at when people say they have a newer 5G-capable phone. Public doesn't use 5G so there's no need to try to connect to it. The phone would of course connect to 4G of the possible ones but just remove the 5G option anyway.

For me, switching from 5G/LTE/3G/2G to LTE/3G got the issue sorted out.

Temporarily anyway...

I'm gonna try this. Besides giving up it's the only remaining chance 🙂

I didn't notice any problems for sure until yesterday (7 Feb) at 330 pm MT. Super frustrating issue. I've never experienced anything like this with a phone before.

@PublicNeil   When did that happen?  The wide outage was on Monday afternoon, do you have the problem since Monday?

PublicNeil

Exact same issue with my phone in Cold Lake, Alberta. I can't receive texts or calls. Everything else is fine. I submitted a trouble ticket because nothing else suggested on many groups has resolved the issue. It's a very annoying issue going on 24 hours now. Good luck!

@WKFord   so, you tested changing to WCDMA only and see if the phone connects at all?

you have a chance to test your phone in another location ?  Just in case it is a local network issue

Were you having similar issue yesterday afternoon?

Since there was a big outage in AB and SK, I think while you are troubleshooting and trying all the workarounds, open ticket with PM support and let them check. Maybe it was something from yesterday's outage

@WKFord

Check the Status of Your Device

try to reset all network.

@LoveNature , however the OP has already stated they can send texts and make calls - so device isn't blacklisted.

@WKFord , to add more confidence, use ANOTHER person's SIM card in your device and see if you can send and receive both texts and calls using it.   If it really is a device issue, you still won't be able to receive them.

Putting the sim card in another phone brought up a number of text messages.   Putting it back in my phone and it started working.

Thanks for everyones help.

@WKFord

If it's the device, check all call and message settings, Do Not Disturb, etc, etc.

Also, try reinserting the SIM card back into the device and try again.   Perhaps the SIM card wasn't resting correctly in the SIM slot and/or a reconnection to the network might resolve the issue.

@WKFord - Alberta had a bunch of outages yesterday, I think some trickled over to today. Wonder if there is still an issue?

Try these fixes:

  • ensure airplane mode is not enabled
  • ensure do not disturb is not enabled
  • ensure the number contacting you is not on a blocked senders list
  • disable any call-forwarding features/settings
  • turn off Bluetooth -- it's possible the 'ringing' or 'notification' sounds are going through to a Bluetooth device instead of device's speakers
  • remove and reinsert your SIM card
  • reset network connections
