Hi
I want to cancel my cell phone plan with public mobile and change to another provider. I was told by my new provider that I do not have to inform public mobile because it will be done by the provider once I received the new SIM card and activate it. However, i am on auto payment with public mobile , will they still bill me after the termination ?
Also , will my spouse loose the refer a friend discount on her autopayment bill if I switch provider ? I have been with public mobile for almost 2 years.
Please advise.
Thanks

To protect against those rare instances of the account continuing to charge after port-out, you can change the payment card to a fully spent visa gift card.

Once you port out your account is automatically closed. If you are porting your number out your PM account must be active unless porting to Telus or Koodo. You can also remove autopay if you like.
Your friend will lose the referral discount once you port out.
When porting out keep the PM sim in your phone to receive the confirmation text to port out.

@karenleong , technically your account will deactivate once you transfer out but some customers have reported still being charged. I would suggest you initiate a support ticket and have the payment card removed from the account prior to porting out. If you were referred by your spouse, closing an account will affect the referral credit. What plan are you getting with the competition. If you have been with Public Mobile for 2 years, you are on the legacy rewards program. After 5 years you will get $7 off every payment cycle which I don't think any other provider even comes close to this kind of discount. Right now, there are competitive plans across the entire spectrum of usage.

No you won't be billed anymore and yes your wife will lose $1 rewards credit.

hi @karenleong if you are porting your number out, no need to worry. Once porting I'd done, your PM account will be closed.
If you like, not a necessary step, before the account is closed, login to My Account me disable Pre-auth payments. You won't have a change to do once the number is ported away as your account would be closed
