Can't place or receive calls in US

FrankCannon

I have the Can-US plan and have had it for a couple months.  Everything worked great in Canada but now that I am in the US it doesn't work.  Text and data are no issue, just no phone calls.  The phone automatically connects to AT&T,  but when I manually selected TMobile the other day it actually went thru, but just that one time.  Back to nothing on any network.

@timwood If your phone isn't on the VoLTE whitelist it's unlikely to work for phone calls in the US. The solution is to upgrade your phone.

I think I have the same issue. Did this get resolved?

My issue:

The phone connects in both the US and Canada. I get data when I am in Canada and the US. When in Canada and the US I can make calls to a Canada number. When I am in Canada and the US, any call to a US number I get no ringback. I switched to LTE, got it to work only once, but since then it does not work.

Thanks all.  Used wrong whitefish, so I now see that PM doesn't support my phone so no VoLTE.  Still have data on LTE so everything goes thru WhatsApp from now till I'm home again!

That phone will not work with VoLTE. If phone calls in the US are important you're going to need to upgrade your phone.

 hi @FrankCannon

sorry, it is for US calling, try changing the network mode to GSM only and connect to TMobile and try make calls

if that does not work, you will have to change back to using 4G and then download the VoIOP app TextNow and make calls using the app

Nothing changed.  Tried all options without success.

Android version says 12 but I don't see a VoLTE enable selection.

HI @FrankCannon

your phone is not VoLTE capable on PM network

can you change the network mode to WCDMA only and check if the phone able to connect to the network?

My phone is listed: Samsung S10+.

The network mode is: LTE/WCDMA/GSM(auto connect)

@FrankCannon  Since it sounds like a VoLTE issue it probably worked on T-Mobile because they may still have some residual 2G network, although it was supposed to be shut down as of September.  If your phone is not on the VoLTE list you could try dropping it to 2G (or try 3G which sometimes seems to allow phones to access 2G if there's no 2G setting) and make it connect to T-Mobile.  No other US carriers support anything but VoLTE since 2022.  T-Mobile's 2G is likely to be spotty to non-existent.  The same phone would work fine in Canada as we still have 3G (although that will eventually be phased out here but not for some time on Bell/Telus, whereas Rogers is phasing it out March 2025.  Since data still works on a non-VoLTE phone you could download a voip app like Fongo or TextNow to make phone calls.

Definitely sounds like your phone isn't VoLTE compatible on Public Mobile's network, which is a problem in the US because they shut their 3G networks down.

@FrankCannon

What is the make and model of your phone? There is a whitelist of phones that are VoLTE (voice over LTE) compatible while in the USA.

The enabling VoLTE on your phone's voice & data settings.
