Can't access the internet using my cell phone

LoriM
Good Citizen / Bon Citoyen

I am new to Public Mobile (since Jan 17/20).
I can't access the internet using my LG G5 cell phone and the $25 PM plan.
Using local library wifi, I added the correct APN in Settings (thanks to a post in the PM Community). As soon as I did that and disconnected from wifi, I was able to use whatsapp, which uses data. So I thought I was good to go.
At that point I should have tested Chrome and other apps (not just whatsapp) when I disconnected from the library wifi.
At home where I have no internet, I can't access the internet.
Weirdly, however, I CAN tether my tablet (which has no data plan) to my LG G5 and access the internet!
I would really appreciate help solving this problem! Thanks!

Thank you SO much! I also first did a network reset but then followed these 2 APN settings specs and it seems to have worked like a charm. Hardly can believe it after agonizing over this problem for 5 days ! (I know. First World problem, right?) Thanks again. You've made yourself a nice little bit of good karma!

That makes sense! Thanks for patiently explaining that to me. (Sometimes I feel like such a Luddite!

No wifi..is your home internet.you connect to wifi and enter the wifi password that is set on your router....or for instance if you're at McDonald's and connect to there public wifi..

APN settings are the settings for mobile data..that you pay for each 30 days.....a network reset may reset all of that for you....but by doing a network reset it will erase any wifi passwords that you have connected to in that past

By Wifi settings, do you mean the APN info?

Thank you so much!

No need to backup if you're just doing a network reset

@LoriM  No it is not required for a network reset. You will need to re-enter your Wi-Fi settings because they will also get reset.

Thanks for the suggestion. When I figure out how to reset the network I will definitely give this a try!

@LoriM

  1. From a Home screen, navigate: Settings > System > Reset. If there are multiple tabs to choose from in Settings, tap on the Menu icon (located in the upper-right) and tap List view. These instructions apply to Standard mode only.
  2. Tap Network settings reset.
  3. Tap RESET SETTINGS.
  4. Tap Reset Settings.

or

  • 1.Touch Settings.
  • 2.Scroll to and touch General.
  • 3.Scroll to and touch Backup & reset.
  • 4.Scroll to and touch Network settings reset.
  • 5.Touch RESET SETTINGS.
  • 6.Touch Reset Settings.
  • 7.The network settings have been reset.

I also have a LG G5. In my case, I did not need to reset network or phone.

You likely already have these 2 APNs setup on your phone:
- Mobile ‌Internet (sp.mb.com)
- Tethered Mobile Internet (isp.mb.com)

In your case, the second one seems to be working, but not the first one.
Ensure the settings are correct as follows:

Name :Mobile InternetTethered Mobile Internet
APN :sp.mb.comisp.mb.com
Proxy :Not setNot set
Port :Not setNot set
Username :Not setNot set
Password : Not setNot set
Server : Not setNot set
MMSC : http://aliasredirect.net/proxy/mb/mmscNot set
MMSC proxy :mmscproxy.mobility.caNot set
MMS port : 8799Not set
MCC : 302302
MNC : 220220
Authentication type:NoneNone
APN type :default,mms,supldun
APN Protocol :IPv4IPv4
APN roaming :IPv4IPv4

MMSC:  http://aliasredirect.net/proxy/mmsc also works.

I have a V20 and your best bet is to reset "Network Settings", LG phones are weird sometimes. there is no need to reset your phone....just reset the network settings should be fine.

BEFORE you do a factory reset, try do a network reset to see if that will work before having to resort to a factory reset

APN settings are only need to access the internet using data.  Did you try rebooting your phone and enable wi-fi ?

LG phones may require a factory reset to get data to work.

On thread below a person with a G5 needed to do this to get data to work.

Don't forget to backup your info first.
