Once again I'm frustrated with public mobile. Seems to be that every time I exhaust my plan allotted amount of data and go and spend more money to get a data add-on, it might as well be dial up it's that slow. For starters no it's not my device nor is my device in need of an upgrade or update. Secondly, no it's not my location. Regardless of where I am or what time of day or what it is that I'm searching, my add-on data is slower than my plan data. It clearly states that the add-on data will be delivered at the same speed as the speed offered in my plan. Time and time again I've purchased add-on data only to be frustrated with its speed. I'm glad to see the public mobile is finally going to offer a bigger plan which I will be choosing as soon as it becomes available on the 17th. I use a lot of data. Usually 15 + gigs a month. Yes I'm aware that other providers offer more competitive rates and or plans and much higher speeds. Yes I'm aware there are other options that would meet my needs. That is not my question here. I am not looking for advice or suggestions thank you for offering. What is my question you ask?
DO ANY OTHER HIGH DATA CONSUMPTION CLIENTS OF PUBLIC MOBILE EXPERIENCE SLOWER THAN NORMAL DATA SPEEDS WHILE CONSUMING ADD-ON DATA THAT THEY HAVE PURCHASED ON TOP OF THEIR PLAN? I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE, EXPERIENCED BY OTHERS ON A REGULAR BASIS. PERHAPS IF MORE THAN JUST MYSELF RAISE A CONCERN ABOUT IT PUBLIC MOBILE MIGHT ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. I APPRECIATE YOU TAKING THE TIME TO SHARE YOUR PERTINENT EXPERIENCES.

Data is 4G LTE but throttled to 3G speeds. It can occasionally drop below that speed but is normally very consistently at that speed. The odd user will notice after an outage that their data speed is no longer throttled which can last for who knows how long but changing plans will cause it to throttle again. As I discovered checking the data speed on three different accounts.....

Hi, thanks for sharing your theory...I'm currently on the 10.5Gig unlimited text/talk/MMS/Can&US LD plus the usual call I'd, call waiting, messaging plan. Is LTE a 4G speed? I'm sure my plan is throttled full time at 3G speeds yet it always seems slower. Anyways to answer your question, I dont swap plans around I just buy data add-ons.

Hi, I am currently on the $50/month, 10.5Gigs of data unlimited text/voice/MMS and the usual call waiting, caller id, unlimited Canada/US wide...I will be upgrading to the $80 plan with 15gigs at the end of this month's cycle. Finally PM listened to me/us/them and put together a larger plan.

@softech when I go into town I usually try to use wifi wherever it's offered. Next time I go in I will specifically try my data instead.

@J-L Motorola X4 should work on PM without issue.
can you tell if it is area specific? like it only have the data trouble when you are at home or at work? Just want to see if it is a reception issue.
any chance you have another phone to test it out as well?

I'm in Ontario. It's a Motorola x4. It's already set to 3G. I've cleared my history/cash/cookies and rebooted... Many times.
What is/ how do I do a network reset?

What province and area you are at?
what kind of phone do you have? You might try to do a Network Reset and see if it improves
also, another thing to try is to set the Network type to 3G Only
Please try and see if it helps

I've been having trouble with my regular plan data! My phone shows that I'm connected but whenever I try to load anything or open an email, it takes FOREVER to do anything. Many times it will say "you are offline" but my phone shows that I am connected. It took me 1/2 an hour to get signed in to my self serve account just now and another 10 min to get into community. Earlier today I needed to send an important email, it took an hour!!! It just kept saying "sending" . This has been happening a lot lately where the data just stops, says "not connected" or " no internet access" then it will be back on then off then on., But today is the WORST it's been. My only access to Internet is via my phone data... WHAT'S GOING ON PUBLIC MOBILE???!!!! This is extremely frustrating!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have lots of data still available on my plan.

I have two personal accounts. The $10 has my late parthers phone #. Then my account with the $15. My bf's and a "data account" that I activated for $25 and still has 7gb of add on data and free minutes. Next renewal will be my first payment in 7 months.....sometimes its just cheaper to activate on a good deal than upgrade your plan.

@softech : I have 3 accounts. All old $10 plans. One is my main original. Another I use as my "data" account in a dual-SIM phone. Another I got for testing things out around here and just keep it alive every 4 months.
Aren't we all "contractors"? The contract being to provide some exceedingly inexpensive help around here in exchange for a pittance of a reward and a few endorphins when it goes well. 🙂

Can you log into your account and see if you have any left? If its not on your overview page then you have finished it all.

@JenniferA did you logon to My Account and confirm if you see see an entry on Overview Tab about how much data you have in the cycle and how much left?
If there is no such entry, then it means Data for this cycle is all used up
of course, also make sure your Mobile Data is on

do one thing take your SIM card out and waiting for a minute and put it back and do rebooting your phone - This one is quick and simple. Make sure your phone is off before removing and reinserting its SIM card.

Do you regularily renew early? Or buy just buy a lot of add ons? I think a lot of data changes slows the speed down? The more stable your account features are the more consistent your data speed. I keep an extra account (mostly for the bf to hotspot off of) so that we are don't bounce around the plans.
I have one $10 plan with full speed 4G LTE and lots of add ons. Another $15 plan with not so throttled data 4G LTE and lots of add ons. And the $15 hotspotter..... this was my speed test last night.

Try clearing your cache and cookies then reboot. Have you tried using different browsers ?
